Spectacular work Pennines, for which I am indebted.

I would simply never have found her as 'Thomas'.

Massive thanks.

There is every chance of that being her - thanks so much (and apologies for the late reply).

Ancestry isn't throwing that up though that I can see - do you know the street address?

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / 1871 census - Neale
« on: Thursday 13 February 25 17:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there - I've been unable to locate EMMA NEALE b. Birmingham 1813-15 in the 1871 census. I have her census records in 1841, '51, '61, '81 and 1891 before her death in 1897. She would be a widow by 1871, her Husband Henry Thomas Neale having passed in 1867. Age 55/56 - Children all grown and likely to have left the family home by 1871 too.

I can't seem to find where she was in 1871 despite really looking hard. Grateful for any input and help.

Cheers.

Thanks so much for doing. There's a marriage in Ruabon, which could be correct from a locality point of view, between an Edward Jones and a Hannah Parry, but it's too early - 1840 she was only born 1829/30.

Indeed - it could be as simple as that.

Or me making up scurrilous rumours 150 years afterthe event!

There's still no way she was 20 when she married though...

Thanks for all the help Rosie / all.

Update - it appears she was born, or at least baptised a Jones:

Sarah Jones
Gender   Female
Baptism Date   22 Jul 1855
Baptism Place   Donington,Shropshire,England
Father   Edward Jones
Mother   Hannah

Seems legitimate?

Fascinating Rosie and thnak you. I don't have the confirmation of her birth name....yet, but am working on it. There's something awry somewhere as she gave birth to a child out of wedlock, married a man (the father?) a year after the census. The census has her as aged 16, the marriage 20.

Also, it doesn't have 'deceased' after her father's name at the marriage, but the mother is a widow in the 1871 census.

Starting to wonder if it is two different people.

What do you think would have led to Sarah Jones changing her surname to Parry on her 1872 wedding record?

Grateful for any suggestions about what might have gone on here (please see attachment).
