Interesting to see a new post on this one. I've been able to do quite a bit since this was 'live' and have notes:
"....... Two years later, on 11th September 1881, Charlotte was probably still living with her son Charles and his young, and expanding, family and re-married at the St. Mary Elms parish church. Charlotte was now 63 years old and married a George Herbert Gladding who was a 70 year old widower. George was a local barber giving his address as St. Mary Elms and his father as James Gladding, a butcher. In the years since her first marriage in 1848 Charlotte had not learnt to write her own name and still had to make her mark – an ‘X’.
Charlotte was again widowed on 28th October 1890 when George Gladding died in the parish of St. Nicholas, Ipswich aged 79 years old. An inquest was held on the same day but the cause of death on the death certificate is illegible.
In 1891 Charlotte appears on the census at an address in Mount Court, Ipswich. Charlotte says she has no occupation but is head of the household and a widow. Her age is given as 71 years old. Also living at this address is Charlotte’s grandson (Charles and Caroline’s eldest son) William who is now aged 16 years old and gives his occupation as flower seller.
Charlotte died on 30th May 1895 and the death certificate says she is 76 years old. Charlotte died of old age in the Union Workhouse in Ipswich and her death was registered by C. Grayson, the Master."
