Monaghan / Re: Banbridge Tutorial Peter Michael Finnighan Clones
« on: Wednesday 27 February 13 10:03 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you Annclare,
I have seen that record. The oral info we have is that when he arrived in Scotland he was a crofter, but interestingly while he was in Monaghan he had worked for some large estate, name not known. Could he have been a blacksmith while working there? It is getting more intriguing. I find that the Major problem we have is that there are many variants to the surname Finnighan, it has been suggested that it originated in Scandinavia, maybe they arrived with the Norsemen?

Hi Bhoy,
Thank you for the info. Peter Michael`s religion was catholic, Maria Agnes we think was non catholic, this may have been the reason they went to Scotland after their wedding. the wedding date we think was c1905.
Rhu in Dunbartonshire is the place where they lived, good work.

Have found my Great Grandparent Robert Jardine b 3rd June 1836 d 10 Jan 1901. He married Eliza Jane Adams on 30th January 1857 in Drumgooland, Eliza b c1837 d 4th March 1886. They had the following children:
Eliza Jane b1864, William A b1867 d1950, Martha Mary b1869 d1951, Samuel b1874 d1961, David b1877.
Eliza Jane Adams`s father was William Adams, Robert Jardine`s father was William Jardine/Jardin, there may have been a Scottish connection to William Jardine. Some of the areas this family were associated with are Garvaghy/Dromara, Drumgooland, Aghaderg.

What I can`t find is the  wives of William Adams or William Jardine/Jardin
Can anyone help, thank you.

Down / Re: McGrath families in Lisnagade in Griffith's Valuation
« on: Friday 11 March 11 23:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Mike,
As I stated before I have not spent much time on the McGrath`s from Lisnagade, but I intend to.
Lisnagade is a townland c 4 miles from a town called Banbridge, Co. Down, 25 miles from Belfast. It has its own Roman Catholic chapel and graveyard where my ancestors are buried.
Lisnagade chapel is clericaly administered from Loughbrickland c 3miles away, under the records of Loughbrickland in the parish of Aghaderg, that is where you will find the Lisnagade records. I dont know what date the records started.
One way I find very useful for finding families in a certain area is to search for the houses in the 1901 and 1911 census, you should try Lisnagade, Scarva Down and the neighbouring townland Kernon, Tullylish, Down ( where my ancestors the McGrath`s and Lavery`s lived hence my username) to uncover surname groups then check who lived in that house.
