Just a quick note. I contacted Jim HERLIHY in Cork and had a reply the same day. He has ascertained information regarding my Great Grand father and I have sent the necessary cash for a copy of that information. A good result thanks to you.

I don't know if I was just lucky but this evening I requested birth details for my great grand mother and got a return from the Parish records of Kerry which showed me her mother and fathers names,  her sponsors and her brother and sisters details.
To those of you who have helped, many thanks.

Hi Elwyn, Many thanks for the information regarding the Royal Irish Constabulary.
I will be going to France for a month very shortly. When I get back I will go to Kew.
Are you aware if the records of brths etc in the area are available on line. All I seem to be able to get is records from 1900's

This is my first in this forum, I hope I'm in the right place. My great grand father was Samuel James Johnson MITCHELL and he was born in Cashel, Tipperary in 1846. He joined the Royal Irish Constabulary in 1864. At sometime after that he emigrated to England and joined the Metropolitan Police in 1868. I am trying to track down any information about his life in Ireland and about his father William MITCHELL who was a tailor.
Any help would be appreciated.

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Nazareth House
« on: Saturday 18 September 10 17:56 BST (UK)  »
I have only to-day joined this interesting forum. I visited Nazareth House, Hammesrsmith on a number of occasions during the war (WW2)and never knew why. I have now found that my mother was an inmate in 1911. I have established that her mother died in 1904 just after she was born. I assume that her father couldn't cope as they had about 7 children, and put her into Nazareth House. I have since found that my godmother and a very close friend were also ther in 1911 and they remained friends up to 1978.  All 3 of them were trained at the convent as domestic servants and were put out to a well to-do family home in the area. I don't know at what age but they were there until about 1929 when my mother married. As far as I am aware the House still exists. When I went there it was a convent but had a full staff of lay people.
