Tom - I am a Stewart looking for my Stewart's form Scotland. The only real clue that I can go by is that they came from possibly Argyllshire. Another clue that I have is our family cemetery here in Ontario, Canada is called the Stewart/Kilmartin Cemetery the reason I'm told is that they were form that area of Scotland. I still have no idea where this Kilmartin place is yet. My Great Grampa was Alexander Stewart who married a Christena McLean. Both born in Scotland. He came to Canada in 1850 and She came here in 1847. Any connections possibly?

Hi Ontchick and thanks for replying.
My alexander & Cristy (Christena) were living in Belmont Village, North Dorchester, Middlesex East Ontario in 1901 as well as in 1881. This is all I have as far as where they lived.
I do fell strongly that they married here becasue Alexander came here in 1850 and Christena came in 1847 according to the 1901 census. I have never been able to locate where they married though or what ship brought them over. I am soon to assume they swim the ALtantic myself! lol
What do you think? Anything has to be better then what I've found.
Thanx
Lorrie

Argyllshire / STEWART / McLean from Argyllshire
« on: Sunday 13 March 05 22:18 GMT (UK)  »
researching my G. Grandparents and their families.
Alexander Stewart B: abt April 11, 1826, 1831, 1834 or 1841 in Argyll, Scotland. He immigrated to Ontario Canada in 1850
Christena McLean B: abt Feb 2, 1830, 1837, 1841 and immigrated to Ontario Canada in 1847. With this, I concluded they married here in Ontario somewhere.
I have different dates according to the reliable census records.
On their tombstone their dates read :
Alex 1826 - 1915
Christena 1830 - 1916
I do have Alexanders obit and death certificate as well as Christenas death certificate. Their ages on them are roughly stated.
Another thing I came across on the 1871 census is that Alexander had a brother named William who was born about 1836 in Scotland.
If anyone can help please do so, as I am about to close this side of my tree as I have been on this for years with no luck and my gray hair is starting to show!
Thanx
Lorrie
