I have three relatives who can see my full tree including living relatives.  I NEVER give permission for them to edit the tree.  Much safer to ask them to message you if they notice an obvious discrepancy so you can check it out and, if necessary, alter the details yourself.  If you have been working on your tree for years and someone mucks it up unintentionally it can cause you a lot of heartache and time putting it right.  Hope you find out what happened.  :'(

Don't know when I found the following but it might be of interest to know that the marriage of Joseph Eastwood and Hannah Kinder took place in Yorkshire in 1757.  So no possibility of them being the parents of John Eastwood born Mayfield, Sussex, c 1679 as quite a few people seem to think.  Hope this helps a few people.  If anyone wants the exact record just ask and I will quote it here.

Cheshire Completed Lookup Requests / Re: James Gatliffe
« on: Monday 19 September 16 22:36 BST (UK)  »
Dear Patricia,

Thank you for your message.  These are the details I have on the Gatliffe (spelt many ways) family.

As I see it James Gatliffe's parents were Robert Gatliffe (born 1780, died 1805) and Mary Sothern (born 1780 but do not know where).  They married on the 8th July, 1799, at St. Elphins, Warrington.

Robert's siblings were:(1) Ann born 1772 Grappenhall, baptised 1772 Grappenhall. No further details on her.  (2) Thomas born 1774 Grappenhall, baptised 8th May, 1774, Grappenhall.  No further details. (3) John born 1778 Grappenhall, baptised 1778 Grappenhall.  No further details.
(4)  Martha born 1780 Grappenhall, baptised 6th August, 1780 Grappenhall, died 1795 Grappenhall.  Then came Robert.  After Robert is (5) Edward born 1783 Grappenhall, baptised 9th February, 1783 Grappenhall.  No further details.  (6) Betty born 1785 Grappenhall, baptised 5th June, 1785, Grappenhall.  No further details.  And, lastly, (7) William born 1789 Grappenhall, died 1795 Grappenhall, buried 28th June, 1795 Grappenhall.

I believe Robert's parents were Absalom Gatliffe born 1745 Grappenhall, died 1805 Grappenhall and buried 12th November, 1805 Grappenhall.  Absalom married Martha Ingram born 1750 but I don't know where.  They were married on 16th April, 1771, at Grappenhall.  No further details.

My line is via James Gatliffe who married Ellen Brierly and their daughter Alice was my great grandmother.

If any of these details are incorrect I would be pleased if you could clarify.  I have no details further back on Absalom or his wife Martha Ingham, so if your research goes back further I would be pleased to hear from you about that.

Thank you for contacting me.

Best wishes Helen Harding nee Wall.

Cheshire Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1901 census please
« on: Sunday 18 March 12 23:14 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you so much for this information.  If I had thought about it more I would have realised that. ;)

My mother was born in Stockton Heath, a few miles from Grappenhall and I am sure the registration district on her birth certificate was Great Budworth but  I could be mistaken, it is a long time since I looked at it.

On the census return that you have do you have any Gatliff/Gatley families?  I would be obliged if you could give me any information on that particular surname.  I visited Warrington four years ago (I live in Kent) and picked up  quite a bit of information in the reference library there but was limited on time so couldn't go through all the parish records for St. Wilfreds Church in Grappenhall.  The information that I did find was births, etc., from around 1840.

Do you have any connection with this family.  My grandmother's family came from Latchford and I see your nickname on here is Latchfordian!

Other names I am interested in are:  Norman, Brierly, Leather and Worsley.

I would very much like to be able to access more records but I am a pensioner so funds are limited.  LOL.

Once again I am obliged to you for replying.

Regards Helen.

Cheshire Completed Lookup Requests / Gatley/Gatliffe Family - Cheshire
« on: Wednesday 14 March 12 23:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Edgar,

I have just been perusing your message (from quite a few years ago) regarding the Gatley/Gattley/Gatliffe family of Great Budworth, Cheshire.  I am descended from James Gatliffe (who was my great great grandfather) and Ellen Brierly.  James and Ellen were married in Warrington on the 25th April, 1836.  James was born in Grappenhall (which if I am not mistaken comes under the registration district of Great Budworth).  I have details of their children if it is of any interest to you.  If you have any details of the parents of James I would love to know about them to take me one step further back.

Best regards
Helen Harding :)

Here I am again,

Forgot to say in my earlier message that all my contacts have Jane Eastwood born 1710, baptised 17.10.1712, as a sister of William 1714.  There are at least 4 of them (contacts that is).

I couldn't find anything on Family Search (IGI) on any names that resembled Eastwood, I tried, Istod, Istood, Istead, Isted.  There was a couple of Isteds from Mayfield but much earlier, i.e. mid 1550's living at Moat House, Mayfield.  I am going to have a look at the lists on film next week just in case they haven't been transcribed for the Family Search site.  It may well be there are other variants of the name that we haven't thought of.  Anything is worth a try.   All jolly good detective work ;)

Hello again Kerry,

COLD? in Pevensey Bay? ;D

Before I moved with my parents to Bexhill in 1947 somebody said to us "don't come to live in Bexhill if you don't like the cold wind!"  But we did and loved it there.

Which branch of the Eastwood family do you descend from?  My hubby Len's family were in Etchingham and his ancestors are William Eastwood 1714 Samuel, Stephen, Henry, James and lastly his mother Ivy.  I understand if you don't want to give any details on here though.

Luv Helen  :-*

Hi again Kerry,

No, so far I have not seen the parish record for Jane.  I am going down to stay at my caravan in Pevensey Bay next week so will take a trip over to Hastings to have a look in the research library for the parish records for Mayfield if they have them.  Will let you know if I find anything of interest.

I think the idea of the name being originally Isted/Estwood/ and similar is feasible.  I had a contact who was given the name Istod or something similar as being the name of William's father.  Will go back to my source and have another look.

Best wishes Helen
