Staffordshire / Re: Haller/Ezekiel
« on: Tuesday 08 May 18 06:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi Amanda,  I am researching this family for my best friend who would be your 2nd cousin. We were both recently in NZ for a cruise!
I have 2 of Mary's siblings only known as Female 1 Haller and Female 2 Haller.....Mabel must be one of them as I don't have her name. I only have Mary Ann, Ada and Elizabeth. Could you please tell me her date of birth? Are you on Ancestry.com? I have photos of Susan and Mary Ann Haller/Mellor there.  How could I help you further? Robyn

Thank you so much again. I was not aware of the British in India Office site before so that helped me enormously with the Ezekiels.  I will pursue your suggestions of name variants and I also thought it may be that Mary was assumed born at Staffordshire because her spouse was. Again, a BIG thank you from down under. Robyn

Hi  - I just wanted to say thank you again. I have found leads to many more generations in the Ezekial tree.
I am still having trouble with the Haller family, both Charles and Mary Ann. Mary Ann's birth at Staffordshire is what the family believes but I don't have documentary evidence. Her spouse, Herbert Goodwin Mellor has Staffordshire listed as his birthplace on his death certificate ssued in Australia.

Staffordshire / Haller/Ezekiel

Hi!
I am trying to go further back in my tree from Mary Ann Haller born 1881 in Staffordshire, England to her parents Charles Haller and Susan Ezekiel. I cannot find any birth, death, marriage, census or other records of either of her parents.
I hope someone can help with any clues that can help me get past this stumbling block.
The only other info I have is Susan was a Jewess and Charles a potter. He was sent to India with the army and their daughter married in 1904 in Poona, India. The daughter eventually emigrated to Australia and we have all the records from then on.
Many thanks in anticipation,
Robyn (Sydney)

Aberdeenshire Lookup Requests / Re: Jane Suitor and George Duthie
« on: Tuesday 14 September 10 03:40 BST (UK)  »
My great great grandfather, younger George and wife, Christina Nicholson of Skye named their children:
George Alexander Crombie Duthie; James Duthie; Christina Isabella Duthie; Jane Sutor Duthie; Flora Jamieson Duthie; Isabella Matheson Duthie; and E J (?) Duthie.

Christina's mother's name was Isabella Matheson - another reason to use the name Isabella for their daughters.  I have found records relating to Christina to be quite precise throughout my research. It is their marriage cert which shows a Christina Smith as George's mother.

I have not been able to determine where the names Sutor, Crombie or Jamieson come from.

Just thought I should add every possible clue.  :)

Thank you once again Robyn

Aberdeenshire Lookup Requests / Re: Jane Suitor and George Duthie

Hi flst, Thank you for taking the challenge on board and making me feel welcome.

Younger George (b.1835) is shown as a carpenter or joiner on various documents, also a miner when he married during the gold rush in Australia - 1863. In his passenger list the parents simply say George and Isabella - Aberdeen. Other passengers do not seem to relate - he seems to be travelling alone. Others are from Aberdeen or Inverness mostly. Please understand my ignorance due to logistics, I'm wondering if Fetteresso is near Aberdeen?
On all documents younger George is shown to be born in simply  Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire.
You mention the George Duthie born c.1822 who is a mason as the possible father - younger George was born c.1835.  :-\
Yes, in Aus certificates usually state if a persons relatives are deceased. In younger George's death cert his father is 'not known - occupation bricklayer' it doesn't show him as deceased.
I wondered if there was clue in younger George's son being name George Alexander Crombie Duthie. This George became a marine engineer in Sydney. As a matter of possibly related interest, my own father harboured a lifelong desire to build a boat. He accomplished this single-handed over about 18 years in our backyard. This boat was a 40 foot concrete cruiser!!!

Aberdeenshire Lookup Requests / Re: Jane Suitor and George Duthie

Hello to everyone who has replied to the original post. I have just found this and want to explain I was the person Yvonne was trying to help. At the time I was just starting out; I now have more information.

My dilemma has been that I have not been able to completely identify the parents of my gg grandfather George Duthie, born around 1835 in Aberdeenshire. I have his marriage certificate, his death certificate and immigration details to Australia (1855 onboard the William Miles).
On all 3 documents his father is listed as George Duthie, Mason, of Aberdeenshire. His mother is listed as 3 different names. I have a Christina Smith - marriage cert, Jane Suiter - death cert. and also an Isabella (no surname) on the passenger list.
George married a Christina Nicholson in Landsborough, Victoria, Australia in 1863 and died in 1884.
I had almost accepted he must be the son, George F Duthie, to George Duthie and Jean/Jane Chalmers but re-reading this now realise that he could not be the witness at his father's death - 1885 - as he died the year earlier - 1884.
I also found this para about the couple:
http://www.brebner.com/uploads/bre00875.pdf
From the above this paragraph:
Lydia Bremner #923 b. 1847, Aberdeen, ABD, SCT, 18 AUG 1847, Aberdeen St. Nicholas, ABD, SCT, occupation Public
School Teacher, m. 02 JUL 1890, in Cairnottie, Methlick, ABD, SCT,23 George F. Duthie #35782, b. c 1840,24 (son ofGeorge Duthie #35783 and Jane Chalmers #35784) occupation Public School
Teacher. Lydia died 1923, Aberdeen
Rubislaw, ABD, SCT.25 1851: Lived with Uncle Robert FORBES in Tullynessle. 1881: Lived with father and second wife
Jane in 1881; unmarried. 1889: Informant at father's death. George: 1890: Lived at Maryville, Woodside, Aberdeen Old
Machar at time of second marriage. 1907: Informant at sister-in-law Mary BREMNER's death.
ii Mary (Helen?) Bremner #925 b. 08 AUG 1849, Aberdeen Old Machar, ABD, SCT, m. 26 DEC

To further complicate matters: Jane Suiter being recorded on his death certificate is strange because that is his daughter's name. She is my great grandmother and her name was Jane/Jean Sutor Duthie. I feel this is perhaps an error on the death cert.
