On searching for ancestors today I found that my great grandmother was born at Millbank, Dalbeattie  in 1856- on her birth certificate it states that her father's occupation was a grain dealer so I presume it was a mill.

I have an Illigitimate child - Alexander BEATTIE who was born at Millbank, Kirkcudbright in 1863.

I am wondering whether Millbank was a home for the poor or perhaps a farm.

I have 2 other children also belonging to Janet Beattie and could perhaps find they all were hers. The others being born in 1856 and 1858.     I have no marriage for Janet.

The signature of the mother for Alexander and William are identical.
Regards,  Annette
