Derry (Londonderry) / Jane Templeton

Hi,

I am looking for some information on Jane Templeton.

Jane Templeton married Thomas Campbell, I am guessing around around 1863 because their first child John Campbell was born in Feb 1864. I believed they had 8 children - see below.

John Campbell, 26 Feb 1864, 0363, Aughadowey, Londonderry
Catherine Donnelly Campbell, 15 July 1865, Aughadowey, Londonderry
Mary Jane Campbell, 06 Oct 1867, 452, Aughadowey, Derry
Charles Campbell, 01 Jul 1869, Londonderry
Thomas Edward Campbell, 03 Jun 1871, 524 Aughadowey, Derry
Grace Campbell, 13 Feb 1873
Rose Campbell, 10 Feb 1877, Macosquin, Londonderry
Bridget Campbell, 29 Jul 1878,  Macosquin, Londonderry

My great grandfather Patrick McLaughlin married Catherine Donnelly Campbell in Coleraine R. C. Church, Killowen Parish on 4 Oct 1887.

I would love to get some information on the Campbell/Templeton side of the family. I am curious about my great grandmothers name “Donnelly Campbell”, where did the Donnelly come from?? It has been mentioned to me that Presbyterians always gave their children their mothers maiden name as a middle name, this is very interesting if this is true because Catherine is the only child that seems to have the surname as her middle name also where they Presbyterians??

If anyone has any information I would be very grateful if you could send it on to me.

Thanks

Thank you Kingskerswell, I have the names of the 7 possible siblings for Catherine so they must be the same as what you found.
Thank you for the information about Patrick renting the business in Waterside - do you know the name of the business?

Hi Turnerchimes, I haven't looked in the newspapers yet, can I do this online. I hope to go to the national archives over the next couple of weeks - will they have them there?

Thanks

Hi,

I am looking for some information on Cathrine Donelly Campbell born 15 July 1865 Aghadowey district, daughter of Thomas Campbell and Jane Templeton.
Catherine married Patrick McLaughlin in Coleraine R. C. Church, Killowen Parish on 4 Oct 1887.

I would like to go further back if I could, I would like to find out who Thomas Campbell's parents were and also Jane Templeton's parents and occupations.

I am also stuck at Patrick McLaughlin - I know his father was James McLaughlin but I don't know who Patrick's mother was. Patricks grandfather was also James and I may be wrong but I've come across a James McLaughlin who married Mary McPoyle which could link in with Patrick's grandfather?

Patrick McLaughlin was a wine and spirit merchant who I believe owned his own public house however both his father and grandfather were farmers so I am curious to find out how Patrick became a wine & Spirit Merchant, where he got the money, was in inherited.

I would appreciate any help with this.

Hi Summerhill,

Thanks for information, it doesn't look like the are related but I will keep searching!! Do I have to visit the Derry City Cemetery Office in person or do they have something online?

Best of luck with your searches.

Hi Summerhill,

I have been reading through your posts and I'm wondering if your family somewhere along the line links in with mine. My father's (Patrick Campbell Mc Laughlin) grandfather Patrick McLaughlin married Catherine Donnelly Campbell on the 4th Oct 1887 in Coleraine. Catherine's parents were Thomas Campbell and Jane Templeton. Some of Caterine's possible siblings are:

John Campbell, 26 Feb 1864, 0363, Aughadowey, Londonderry
Mary Jane Campbell, 06 Oct 1867, 452, Aughadowey, Derry
Charles Campbell, 01 Jul 1869, Londonderry
Thomas Edward Campbell, 03 Jun 1871, 524 Aughadowey, Derry
Grace Campbell, 13 Feb 1873
Rose Campbell, 10 Feb 1877, Macosquin, Londonderry
Bridget Campbell, 29 Jul 1878,  Macosquin, Londonderry

Did you come across any of the above in your searches, if so could you fill me in? I have found out a good bit about the McLaughlin's but not a lot on the Campbells.

Thanks

Fran

Thank you for all your help with my research - I found out that Patrick McLaughlin's father was James McLaughlin and James McLaughlin's father was also James McLaughlin they were both farmers. Catherine Donnelly Campbell's father Thomas was also a farmer..

My next step is to find out who Patrick's siblings were and also his fathers wife's name. Any suggestions where I should look?
