Many thanks to the 2 responders. I have located the photo from the Frank Sutcliffe collection taken at Whitby during Victoria's reign. It makes all the difference when you have it identified. Thanks all.

Brilliant Mosiefish, thanks for that. Anyone offer a date? Pre 1900 I would think.

Europe / Fishermen - Unknown country of origin

I have come across this old photo of some fishermen out here in Spain, but in an English thrift shop. It could therefore be of UK origin or Spanish. Does anyone have any ideas on date and country of origin?

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Henry & Charles Buckthorp
« on: Saturday 18 September 10 22:34 BST (UK)  »
My Gt.Grandfather Charles 1835 & Gt.Gt.Grandfather Henry were Stonemasons in Lincoln.

Can anyone help find their names on any Trade /Apprenticeship listings.

Henry Buckthorp moved from Hertfordshire to live at Newport in Lincoln.  He could possibly have moved to work on the Cathedral.

Lincolnshire / Buckthorp
« on: Sunday 12 September 10 17:53 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for proof of Charles Buckthorp's baptism, my great great grandfather.

  • he was born 1835/7 at probably Grantham, Lincolnshire from census and marriage records
  • the 1841 census shows him at Westgate. Lincoln with his parents
  • I believe his parents were Henry Buckthorp and Ann Rix
  • his father was a 30 year old stone mason from Hertford
  • 1851 Census at Newport St, Lincoln
  • Siblings Sophia, Frederick, Henry, Anne, Samuel, Agnes, David
  • Charles married in 1869 to Sarah King

I have been unable to trace his birth although the census tells me he was born in Lincoln. Can anyone help me here?

Carmarthenshire Lookup Requests / Eglwys Fair a Churig
« on: Friday 10 September 10 11:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

A John Evans got married to Esther Phillip in Eglwysfair A Churig parish church on 18 October 1815.

I would like to find out if it was my Gt Gt Grt Grandfather John Evans, of Waungron Farm, Llanboidy.

My Gt Gt Grandmother Bridget Evans was born in 1817 so it appears to fit but I need an address or something to connect him.

Has anyone access to these parish records that could help?
