Hi Dawn,some of Alvar's family live in Ecclefechan,his brothers ,Jimmy Andrew, Colin, sisters Colina and Avril, Zena lives in Annan,also a brother Raymond in Annan and a brother Dennis in Gretna.

              Thanks for that information, it certainly looks like my Burgesses,I also have a child John born 1864 for them and Amelia 1862 strange how their firstborn wasn't called John

Their daughter Janet was born at Hillburn Cotts Dryfesdale on 13/3/1859 and i cant find that birth either.

Dont know if this will help but i have a John Burgess born in 1822 in Lochmaben in my tree , his daughter Janet born 1859 was my g/gran but i cant get any further

Yes its a small farm holding.The fishermen meet there to fish a part of the river Annan

There is a place called Gillhall about 2 miles from Hoddom heading towards Dalton.
