Paul,

Your Thomas Graham sounds like one that is a (distant) cousin of mine, and Liz's as well. Thomas and Margaret's son James married Elizabeth Smith (my great grand-aunt) and had at least 2 children, Margaret and Patrick. They married in Dumbarton but moved to Barrow in Furness where James had been living and working.

Do you have more info on the Grahams? I only began working on this branch this past week after finding Patrick's death certificate for March 1941. He'd been living in Dalmuir and died at Killearn Hospital. He married an Eliza(beth) McColgan in 1936.

Please feel free to send a message or respond here if you'd like to be in touch at all!

I've since found a death record for Matilda- she died in 1969 in Larbert, Stirlingshire. Naturally this makes me think maybe she was at Bellsdyke... since its so recent I can't view it on scotlandspeople. Hmm!

I have a Matilda Smith who was living at the asylum in 1901. She was the youngest female listed on the 1901 census at the asylum, she was 19 years old. In 1911 she was back at home with her family but had no occupation which was odd for a 29 year old (the family was not wealthy).

Her parents were Matilda Madden and Patrick Smith and the family was from Dumbarton. Her parents both passed away before 1920 so I'm wondering what happened to Matilda. She had 8 siblings (Agnes, John, Elizabeth, Patrick, Edward, Bridget, Mary Ann and Margaret) but at least 4 of them immigrated to the US (the last four listed).

Scotlandspeople did not turn up a death record for Matilda Smith which is strange. She was born 1 Dec 1881 in Dumbarton.

Any ideas?
