Ian,

Thank you for following up. I was able to find some of the information you provided already.

I did not know that the rest of the family emigrated along with Olaf. I will have to do some digging on that front to find out where they ended up. I know Olaf and Karl began their life in America in Worcester MA (which is where I currently live). I would guess that the others also lived in the area.

I also have down that Johan Frederick died 30 Mar 1884 at age 10. I wonder if that in addition to Anna's death in 1881 (which I knew occurred before 1900 but not an exact year) spurred them to leave Sweden?

Ian,

Thanks. I did have the info on Israel Londholm already. I appreciated the info anyway.

I had the information on Carl Hugo's daughters but I never had his wifes name. This was his first marriage and she died 7 Dec 1892. He later emigrated to the US and married Amelia Londholm (Israel's daughter) in Cambridge Massachusetts 10 Sep. 1895.

I appreciate the time you spent looking this up and posting. I'm not sure where you are but I am in Massachusetts so let em know if I can help you in anyway.

Craig

Thank you. This was very helpful!

http://news.google.co.uk/archivesearch?q=%22Esther+Manning%22
 - there is an obituary for her here in 1990 - would have to pay $1.95 to get a copy but from what I can squeeze out of it it does mention siblings (brother Eino, Finland, sisters Eliina, Royalston and Eili, Finland), a location ("Biipuri") and her parents names (Edward and Eva Hjerppe?)

http://www.stone-ladeau.com/obits/obituary.php?id=62402 - here is an obituary for her sister Eliina

www.ellisisland.org shows a possibly immigration for her in 1922; Ester Karjalainen, aged 19.  You will have to use http://www.stevemorse.org/ to see the manifest. Her sister is also there, I think, as "Elina Karjalamin", arriving in 1921.

I am looking for ancestors of Esther Karjalainen (b. 10/3/1902 Viipuri, Finland; d. 3/1990 in Massachusetts). Esther married Francis Patrick Manning and had Joan Barbara Manning (b. 5/24/1931 Winchendon MA; d. 3/23/1969 in Gardner, MA)

This is all the information I have on this family. I appreciate any help.

Good to hear you have been able to progress. Did you manage to get your information when the Swedish digital archives had a free access offer  for last weekend? http://www.arkivdigital.net/

It is worth looking at these sites from time to time to find out when they have a freebie like this.
kaysii

No I didn't know they had a free trial. I was able to get this information from Genline a month or so ago and need to get back to follow-up. I forgot about the site you mentioned but it is now bookmarked and I registered for the newsletter.

Europe / SWEDEN-Carl Hugo Lundeen/Amelia Londholm
« on: Monday 21 March 11 19:45 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for information on both Carl Hugo Lundeen (Lundin) and his wife Amelia Londholm (Lundholm) in Sweden

Carl was born 1/28/1860 around Motala Sweden to John P Lundeen (Lundin) and Hedwig (or Hedrick) (maiden name unknown). They had 8 children of which I have most of that information. Both Carl and Amelia were previously married and died prior to 1920.

Carl's first marriage (wife's name is unknown) ended around 1892 when his wife died. Carl then emigrated from Sundsvall in 1892. Carl's sister (name unknown) emigrated with the 2 children in 1893.

Amelia's first marriage (1888 in Boston) was to Claus Johanson (b. abt 1864 in Sweden) and they had 4 children. Amelia emigrated in 1886 and became a US Citizen in 1888. Amelia was born 1/22/1864 around Motala Sweden to Israel Londholm (b. 12/1836) and Johanna Wilhelmina Enberg (b. 5/26/1837in Sweden). Israel and Johanna had 8 children (5 of which I have a little information on).

I plan on researching Genline at the local library in the near future but wanted to post something in case anyone might already have information to fill in the gaps.

Thanks

Craig

I am new to searching on my Swedish side and have been having a hard time finding information online for my great great grandparents.

Carl Julius Olsson (b. 12/1869 SWEDEN)
Maria Louise (Louisa) Nilson (Nelson) (b. 9/2/1867 SWEDEN)

Both Carl and Maria show up on the 1900 US Census in Worcester, MA. Carl emigrated in 1884. They have 4 children: Carl Julius Axel, Arthur Victor, Walter Clarence (great grandfather), and Violet Louise.

Any information would be great.

Craig

Further research has uncovered that Carl's parents are Olaf Magnusson and Sophie (maiden name unknown). Olaf was born 10/28/1838 in Nor, Varmland, Sweden. Olaf's parents were Magnus Mansson and Stina Olofsdotter.

Maria/Murial Nilson/Nilsdotter was born in Edsvalla, Nor, Sweden and her parents are Nils Svenson and Louisa (maiden name unknown)

Carl emigrated in 1884 from Karlstad (#0871884025). I plan on getting to the local library and accessing Genline at some point but if anyone is looking for something to do...

I plan on researching more into both Carl and Maria's ancestors while trying to understand the naming convention of the locations in Sweden.
