you refer to a bernard devir son of thomas d and catherine sweeney.i feel that catherine is a sister of hannah mcdevitt[sweeney] largnalarkin, parish of inniskeel age 83 in 1901 cenuus and ambrose sweeney cornagallon parish of gartan age 76 in 1901 census and edward died 1902 age 40.all were the children of myles sweeney a native of glenfinn d.1882 age 60 and his wife kate[catherine] d. 1895 age 90.
hannah mcdevitt had a daughter brigid widowed in america while she had died by 1900 in donegal.of her three children ann age 11 was living in philadelphia with her mothers sister mary devir[born march 1850] according to u.s census 1900 and also  a widow .another daughter maggie in 1900 was living with her grand uncle ambrose in cornagallon while a brother laurence was living with his grandmother hannah in largnalarkin.
mary dever left philadelphia and was also living in her birthplace in largnalarkin by 1911 census age 69.sarah mcdevitt another niece of ambrose lived with him as his unmarried housekeeper age 30 in 1901.he died in 1909 and by 1911 sarah was living on the farm with her new husband edward gallagher.

you may be interested in Michael mcgettigan keadue upper, clogher  4 miles east of donegal town who was sub postmaster there in 1911 census.my interest is in the mcgettigans long established in the parish of killymard and donegal who seem to carry forward the same male first names as in north donegal - edward,hugh,daniel/dennis and patrick.

 hello,
i have an interest in the mcdevitt family tree in the parish of conwal/inniskeel who are descended from ferdinand mcdevitt [ foster brother of sir cahir odoherty] and his wife sarah mcgettigan of rathmullan.ferdinands mother lived out her final years near burnfoot and i feel that the illies mcdevitts are the descendants who remained in inishowen.i note that you have dna info and would appreciate if you could share same as i feel results are available from the west donegal branch of the family.

Donegal / Re: Cecelia Doherty b. abt 1866 Donegal
« on: Sunday 05 September 10 16:08 BST (UK)  »

i am doing some family research which has brought me to the Doherty family.i believe that Cecelia is the granddaughter of John and Cecelia Doherty both born around 1800 and owners of the Central Bar on Main Street Letterkenny.i am attempting to prepare a family tree from john and cecelia to the present.i have already completed the family tree for Cecelia wife of john back to 1580 on her parents side.her maiden name was mcdevitt and she had a brother dominick.Any assistance you can offer me on cecelia, her brothers, sisters and parents would be greatly appreciated.
