Hi Jeanie,

I can’t help you with the Post Office Hotel it was in Hulme, Manchester not Stockport.

I have found a little bit of info regarding the Moss Rose, Travis Brow.
It was a beer house in 1853 and closed in 1971. It was thought to be a venue for gardeners from the nearby Moss Rose Lodge. When it closed in 1971 the licence was transferred to the Moss Rose in Didsbury.
I haven’t been up that way in years and can’t swear to it but I seem to remember that most of the buildings on Travis Brow were demolished when the Motorway was being built.
There is a photograph of the pub taken in 1971 advertising Hydes Beer and you can find it on the Stockport Images Archive website just put Travis Brow in the search box.

As Hydes Brewery are still in existence and presumably have archives it might be worth your while contacting them.

Hi Suz
Edward's profession is giving as Labourer, the witnesses were Charles Turner the Groom's brother and "?"/could be Louise Haywood/Hayward. The surprising thing is that Elizabeth is the only one of the wedding group who can sign her own name on the register.

thanks for the help

Hi
Please can you help me with any information on my Great x2 Grandmother Elizabeth Kenton/Kineton. Born 1832, she is on the 1841 census living with William (aged 70) and Sarah (aged 40) on Kyre Common. I assume that William is her Grandfather as Elizabeth's wedding certificate (1853 - Rochford Church) gives her Father's name as Edward Kinton, Labourer. Any info on Edward Kenton and his parents would be fantastic. I have done some research and the name Kenton hails from Somerset/Plymouth.
Many thanks

Lancashire / Moss Rose/The Post Office Hotel Stockport
« on: Saturday 16 February 13 12:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Does anyone have an info on the two pubs above? My Great x2 Grandma was the publican at the Moss Rose (31-33+35 Travis Brow) in 1901 and then moved to The Post Office Hotel, Embden Street by 1911 census when her daughter Alice Holehouse was licencee. Are these pubs still there? What brewery was it? How would i get to understand if they owned or were tenants?
Any help, memories appreciated

Hi
Does anyone have any info on the above two pubs in Stockport? The 1901 census shows that my Great x2 Grandma Elizabeth Turner was the publican here with her daughter, Alice Holehouse. They had moved to The Post Office Hotel by the 1911 census, where Alice is now the licencee. Do the pubs still exisit, would there be brewery records? If so were would I find them?
Any help would be much appreciated

Hello

Hope you can help. Mary Ann Lingard born 1833 to Anthony Lingard and Hannah Wardle. Baptised 1837 Collegiate Manchester. I think I have her on the 1851 census as a General Servant to Henry and Jane Litchfield in Cheetham Manchester. I have checked Lancashire BMD and there is an entry of marriage in 1853 of Mary A Lingard and Thomas Bushall at St Thomas Church Pendleton, this would fit as St Thomas' seems to be the church the Lingards were baptised and married in. I can find nothing after this point.

Any help much appreciated

Jeanie
