hi Dodger123
I received your personal message. Unfortunately I cannot reply directly until I have made 3 postings.
( I think!)
You are correct, we have a mutual great great grandfather in Samuel Thompson,
My grandfather was Samuel Thompson  brother of Rueben Thompson and your great grandfather James.
According to my sister the family did own a number of  hotels including the George.
Other hotels which may have a connection with the family are the Albert, Albion, "Snig Inn, which was the Mersey
and the pub at Cuerdley.
The Penney family appear to be the connection with beer.
It must be in the genes because my son, Richard, was awarded the most popular beer at the J R Wetherspoon beer festival in the UK 2 years in a row! (now you can work out my name and residence at Narrawallee so give me a ring!)
When I visited UK in 1972, Aunt Eva,daughter of Samuel Thompson and Annie (nee Spruce) told me that a large number of my relatives were buried at St Lukes Farnworth
Do you live in Australia? Where?
Keep in contact. I'll post photographs when I take some Digital photos

hi Dodger,
what a coincidence! I have just started searching for my family history and "googled" Thompson Samuel family history and found your comment. MY great grandfather was  James Thompson and my grandfather was Samuel Thompson.
We must be related. I see you are in Australia, so am I!!! I live at Narrawallee 2539.
I have some photographs which I post later.
Perhaps we can do some joint family history together?
