Hi Margaret.
It is often hard to go past a spot on the tree for a time. Maybe the records aren't on the net yet, or maybe they are lost, but I haven't found the parents of Jan(n)et Thom(p)son or William Bell. They were married at Annan in 1831, so they may have had family there. They were supposedly born at Middlebie, but mothers may have been visiting relatives for the birth. Your group looks good, but we might be wrong.  Thanks for the idea.    David.

Dumfriesshire / Re: How can I find Bells in Dumfries 1770s ?

I have William Bell, born about 1806 in Middlebie, who married Janet Thom(p)son )born about 1810 in Middlebie).  The marriage was in Annan, about 1831.  I am still guessing about William's parents and Janet's also.

Maybe  they are related?

I noticed that Jane Thompson's mother was given as Jannet.  Sa I have reached a Jan(n)et  Thom(p)son of Middlebie in my tree,  wonder about Jane having a sister.
