Hi all 'Waring Decendants',
I have no connection with this family / name, but I thought I'd let anyone out there interested in the Rev. Holt Waring of this recent discovery I made.
I recently came across this drawing and it appears to be by the Rev. Holt Waring, who was I understand a founder member of todays 'Orange Lodge'.
I came across a pen & ink drawing entitled 'The Washerwoman' and signed WR and dated 1790. Along its bottom (under the frame' ) it states "By Holt Waring 1790"
From the small research I've done, there's a magnificent drawing done by the RE. Holt Waring of Captain Cooks Funeral in St. Pauls Cathedral, which is owned by the British Maritime Museum in Greenwich, which you can look up on the internet. The National Library in Dublin also has a drawing of the Custom House attributed to Holt Waring. Other than these I can find no mention of him as an artist. Indeed, the drawing I have here , although very good, would probably not be considered a 'masterpiece, nevertheless, I think its a unique piece.
I accordingly donated it to 'Libraries Northern Ireland' and they intend putting it on permanent display in the 'Irish & Local History Library in Armagh.
