Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / DNA Y-67 unusual result matches
« on: Thursday 16 May 13 03:25 BST (UK)  »
I suggested my hubbie get his DNA tested and an acquaintance recommended the FTDNA Y67 test. We have an uncommon surname and I didn't really expect many matches. However I wasn't expecting the result of matching another surname so often. 2 at 4 steps, 8 at 5 steps, 4 at 6 steps. Although there are matches with other surnames as well, in all 38 matches, but 14 matches to one particular surname.

I want his brother tested now although I haven't worked out how I'm going to ask. There is a small possibility of a male third cousin or two in other countries I might be able to contact. We'd have to pay for testing, what would you do?

Another researcher said Frederick Barnes born 1824 was born there

I suspect the used a false name on the  1851 census, James NELSON and Eliza, children, Fanny and Elizabeth

Have you looked at that 1851 entry?

Fanny is Frances aged 4 and Elizabeth is Eliza aged 2

In 1861 Fanny is 11

I am intrigued to know how anybody associated an 1851 for James Nelson as being the same family as Frederick Barnes?

Who reported the 1874 death for William Frederick Barnes
I am clutching at straws? I was trying to look beyond the norm to find them on the 1851 cenus. I would not add that fact to the family tree but keep it in mind.

It looks like A Barnes. I've attached the death certificate and a family tree diagram with the information we know. Thanks for your help. I just need a baptism for Fred.

Thanks, I'd missed that fact. Maybe looking for the baptism of a 'Frederick' was misleading. I should be looking for a 'William'.

The marriage was in 1853 and both are shown as single on the marriage cert but the 1861 shows 3 children born before 1853

Elizabeth 11
Fanny 10
William 9
Yes, I suspect the used a false name on the  1851 census, James NELSON and Eliza, children, Fanny and Elizabeth. William was born after that cenus. Is using  false name usual for couples who weren't married?

I'm looking for the baptisms of this church. Another researcher said Frederick Barnes born 1824 was born there. So far no luck.  He was reportedly born to Robert Barnes a shoemaker from Birmingham.

Frederick married at the St Phillips church in Granville Sq, Clerkenwell on the 15 July 1853 to Eliza Ann Chivers. We found their children born at St Pancras and Islington.

I've been looking at the history of this St Lukes church on the internet, it was pulled down in 1868 to make way for the Midland railway station. Where did the records go?

You are all wonderful, thank you lots. I'm just writing up this family and I can't do it without these things.
