Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Looking for siblings
« on: Thursday 09 September 10 13:36 BST (UK)  »

Hi please can you help I'm looking for the brothers of a James Simcock c1836, born in Norton Le Moors, possibly Stanley Moors area, Staffordshire, I did think he had 2 (maybe there's more) possibly a Joseph c1845 and Frederick I'm not sure of his birth date, it's Frederick I'm most interested in as he was bought into question via a recent email I have had.
Their  parents were James c1815 and Mary Scragg(I think) c1815, they too were from the Norton Le Moors/Stanley Moors area of Staffordshire

Many thanks

Hi Tati, blimey your quick and clever, it looks that it may be but what I am going to do is to print off your reply and show it to a cousin who's coming to visit and then get her to speak to her dad who's in his 80's he may remember

Derbyshire / Jabez and Hariette Moss
« on: Saturday 04 September 10 07:36 BST (UK)  »
I have recently found a gt gt aunt, Hariette, who married a Jabez Moss but I'm not sure where they went to live in Derbyshire ( I did think it was Hartington?) or what Jabez's occupation was.
Unfortunately the only date and place I am sure of is Hariette's birth year 1881 and where she was born, Endon, Staffordshire.
She possibly died in Derbyshire, and of Jabez I known nothing more than his name.
Can anyone help even with this limited information.

Thanks Polly2

Staffordshire / Leek Historical Society
« on: Friday 03 September 10 08:22 BST (UK)  »
Just thought this may be of use to people looking in the Leek area.

I had been looking for a farm in the Endon area and was drawing a complete blank, I approached my local historian who suggested I tried the Leek Historical Society.
I went onto their web site and made contact with a lady called Catherine, who helped me enormously she found in a matter of days what I'd been looking for for months.

Technical Help / Re: DVD won't eject from laptop
« on: Friday 03 September 10 08:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi Charlotte, have you tried shutting down completely?, shut your laptop down wait a few minuets(I go and make a cuppa) then start it up again, do you have your laptop, this is a bit of a daft question, on your lap I ask because sometimes this happens to me when my laptop has gotten a bit hot.

Thank you so much for your help, John William has become something of an obsession there's not a day that goes by that I don't think of him, I recall that my nanna and granddad had a picture of him in his big gray military overcoat and wearing a cap, over the fireplace in the "best room" I also recall thinking that my own father resembled JW.
I just feel so sad that he died on his birthday, once again thank you so so much

Message for Doug Lewis, Hi Doug I saw in your post to Allen that you listed name, age, rank and so on and where it said "Died" you gave an explanation, I wonder, could you shed any light on how my uncle died I know where he died, the date he died and his age when he died but I don't know how he died whether it was in action or of an accident or illness.

He was                                     John William Simcock
                Rank                         Pte
Unit                           North Staffordshire regiment, 8th Battalion
                Military number         201470
                Buried at                   Ribcourt, France

if you could help it would be most appreciated.

Thanks Polly2

Well that certainly sounds promising, the wife's name is correct but where do the two step children come in ?
I  thought that Martha was John's second wife I wonder if I've got Nancy and Martha the wrong way round and Martha was the first wife and the two children where her's and not Nancy's
