Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / James Patrick Carey
« on: Monday 25 February 13 14:42 GMT (UK)  »
I am helping friends to research the history of James Patrick Carey who was born on board ship in 1787 returning from India. To date, I have found him in the 1861 uk census under his full name, and also on the 1851 census under the name of Patrick. On both he is listed as being blind and has the occupation of tailor. In 1871 Patrick was listed in the Pontefract Union Workhouse as an inmate. He died shortly after in Pontefract. Any information regarding his birth and his parents would be welcome.

Glad to have been able to help you.

There is no cause of death on Alberta's records. Should be recorded on her death certificate.

In response to Rafters input about Chemist Lane. He is quite correct in saying that it is near Charlie Browns (which may no longer be there) and can be found on Google Maps. My husband remembers it well as it is in what used to be the Thornhill area of Rotherham where he lived until the houses were pulled down around 1958. Chemist lane is not a million miles away from the Phoenix pub so the locations all make sense.

Keep in touch
AJ

Hi bellababy,

found both Ralph (d22.11.39) and Alberta (d12.7.43) in same grave as Mary Hannah. Ralph was a newsagent when he died aged 72 at No11 Holland Street. Alberta was living at 10 Chemist Lane and was 38 when she died. Occupation listed as wife.

Burial number for Ralph is 14715. burial number for alberta is 15618.

Also at 11 Holland street was  Federick Geeson who died aged 52 on 29.139. He was also a newsagent.

Burial information can be found for most of England on the National Burial Index which can be accessed at most archives. not available on the internet.

If there is anything else that I can help you research, please let me know. I get a buzz from getting results.

Best wishes
AJ

Hi Craig

thanks for the response about PM.

Just looked at your views from Boston Castle, we were ther last weekend looking at the same views.

Interesting to see the Rank Hovis mill photograph. My husband worked there for 29 years until it closed in 2008. It stopped producing flour in September and finally closed in December with the exception of a distribution warehouse which has since closed down.

Incidentially a Bob Mollekin worked in the engineering department at the mill some years ago. Any relation?

Pleased that the photographs from Masborough were well received by bellababy.

Hi bellababy
found out a little more info for you. I went to the cemetry office and went through their tomes, enormous books that record all deaths in this area. I found w.t.Fairbanks, he did die on 31-8-1918.He was buried 5-9-1918.He died of pneumonia in Northern General Hospital Sheffield. His father was Arthur, a miner, mother was Eliza.
Mary Hannah? Wiles died 5-6-1938 aged 72 Grave number
LL92 She lived at 11 Holland Street. Will find out if it is still around.
Could,nt find Alberta Chapman or Ralph Wiles in Masborough.Only four Wiles on register none Ralph.
Some one from the office will meet me at Cemetry and show me where the graves are.Ill take some photoes and send to you.I havent given up looking yet.
Where abouts in the world are you? whats your connection with Rotherham?

Bye for now A.J.
