I've transcribed the remaining documents as far as I can. Not many missing words.
Would someone mind taking a quick look at these missing words? I dont need a full complete transcript really, just need any key details - specifically any places that might be stated that i might have missed.

Thanks

Somerset Lookup Requests / Re: illegitimate birth registered under an unknown surname

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Poor health.
Thanks for the replies. Yes, that link above to that .pdf file is pretty much all we have to go by. The author Tom is now dead but we have hot in contact with some family members in California so hopefully they still have Toms work. I found that his tree is also deposited at the California state library. Unfortunately it's not available online and I don't know anyone nearby.

Other gore lamgton descendants that we are in contact with dont know anything about this branch and it seems Earl temple gore Langton only married once and was married when this birth is said to have taken place.

So there isn't much to go on factually as yet.

Thanks Alexander. I have done the same with the 02 transcript, but that was harder as the format and content seems to be a bit different.

OK, ive redone CCF061122012_00000.jpg_transcript. Its much more complete, not too many words missing.

I will do the same on the third one.

Good idea Alexander, I'll do that.

I have received copies of five tax certificates from the National Archives.
They are supposed to be certificate of residence showing James Langton to be liable for taxation in Gloucestershire, and not in Somerset. They are each fairly small and a couple have the bottom destroyed.

I am hoping that the certificates contain some breakthrough material, specifically mentioning locations in Glos. or Somerset where he lived.

I have started trying to transcribe these, and have managed two partial transcriptions so far. Could someone help me fill in the blanks that i cant decipher?

You can view and/or download the scans here:

Thanks in advance!

Somerset Lookup Requests / illegitimate birth registered under an unknown surname
« on: Wednesday 07 November 12 15:43 GMT (UK)  »
Cecil Arthur Lionel Trevor George Herbert Gorelangton was born in Bath, Somerset 25 Aug 1882. He died in Hawaii.

We think that he may have been illegitimate son of William Stephen Temple-Gore Langton of Newton Park, Newton St Loe, Somerset. Cecil Arthur claimed he was his son but William was not married to Cecil's supposed mother and had other children by his wife, so if this claim is correct then it looks like an illegitimate birth.
However, there is no birth record for Cecil, at least, not as a Gore-Langton, Temple-Gore Langton, Gorelangton or Gore Langton. We suspect he may have been registered under his mothers name, or some other name. His mother was apparently Mary Ethel Pross, but we cant find record of her or him with that name either.

Not really sure how to go about finding Cecil's birth registeration (if there was one) without a known surname, and of course he seems to have a crazy number of middle names so maybe he is registered under any one of them. We know he mainly went by the name Cecil Arthur, or Arthur Cecil.

What we do have is the birth date, so is anyone able to search by Birth Date for Somerset and find if anyone with any of these names comes up?

Thanks in advance!
Best
Joel

Berkshire / Gibbs family of Newbury, Berkshire 1600s and before
« on: Monday 15 October 12 16:51 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find out more about the Gibbs family of Newbury /Speen. The top of the tree I have is here:
http://www.lostlangtons.co.uk/humogen/family/humo_/F1619/I4718/
Starting with Samuel Gibbs. If you go up a level you can see he had a brother Michael. Samuels daughter Elizabeth married my ancestor William Langton in 1679 in Speen. William was not born in Newbury and I can't trace him back. I have tried very hard to do that the last few years.
I'm hoping that if I can trace the Gibbs back somewhere before Newbury then maybe I will find Langtons there too. There are various Gibbs families in Wiltshire and Gloucestershire but I dont know which group they come from.

I'd be very grateful if anyone can help me get back further.
Kind regards
Joel
