Stephen Richard Charles Spencer Thompson - Date of Death 12/12/1983,
Fabulosa!  Thank you so very much, greatly appreciated.  I got an end date now! :D

If an obit could be located, that might yield gold for you, or if he had children, their marriages or obits could be useful too.

Hello All.
RTL you enquired if I am planning to grow trees. (I do hope your hand injury is recovering.)
I would love it if I can nurture a real tree from a seed which happens in nature with no help from a human hand.

I was delighted to have an acorn which survived a couple of winters and put on leaves during Spring times, but last year my husband pruned off the new shoots, which may well have killed it. :'( I am hoping it will fight back in a few weeks. We shall see. I would like to guerrilla plant a hand reared sapling if I can sustain one that looks strong enough, and get permission.

I think you are marvellous to keep up with it all the way you do Viktoria.

I have a small balcony, with 3 window boxes, but no garden, During Autumn I collected some  conkers, acorns and buck eye nuts which are now sprouting a little, in said window boxes
The acorns were kept moist n the fridge for a few weeks, as they must reach a very low temperature to sprout. II find it  exciting to observe progress daily.

Have a good weekend everyone. :)

Hello you Stalwart Chatters,  :)
Just dropping in briefly to send good wishes for a healthy and happy 2026.
Good luck to you all.
My grateful thanks to those who sent me kind words of encouragement during the previous 12 months.
My recovery is slow but I am grateful I can strive for continued improvement.
I know that many others also face a daily struggle, :'( which situation steadily improves for each I do hope.
My husband drove me to visit a National Trust property near Exeter on Thursday, and I was shocked to see snow drops in flower!! That is early even for us Soft Southerners.
December was largely sodden and stormy hereabouts, though we have had several sunny and dry days recently. It is wonderful when the wind drops.
I am shaking my magic wand at you all, hopefully matters are improving daily.  :-* :-*

ThY, there used to be a vintage bus, steam train and steam boat that stopped at Greenway for visitors, but the tide needs to be at the correct height to disembark at the boat house, and it is a very steep climb up to the house from the river. I don't think those services run regularly these days, I doubt it would be first choice for most visitors. I certainly couldn't manage it anymore. :'(

Hello all staunch diarists, Happy Easter to you all.

This morning we visited a local National Trust property: "Greenway house" perched high above the river Dart, once the home of the prolific Torquay born author Agatha Christie. We have been many times before, and previously I was able to enjoy the walk from the car park to the house. This time it was a daunting prospect and I was hugely grateful there is a buggy service available on request, so I didn't have to struggle back to the car park when I had already walked quite a lot, (stairs included). It is National Trust policy during school holidays, for an activity to be introduced, in the hopes of engaging child visitors; today I noticed they are being encouraged to write a haiku, taking Spring blossom as inspiration.
Haiku writing was a hobby I used to enjoy, but as with so many things I am no longer proficient following the stroke.
Here is my best effort, and I am hoping for some improvers amongst the readers here:

Silent like snowflakes, (5)
petals dance on the breeze,  (6)
brief beauty destroyed, till Spring returns.  (9)

The construction rules are rigid,
It should be 3 lines containing 5, 7 & 5 syllables, but I can't seem to do it anymore.
I made a book of 21 photos with haiku for a friend. All within the rules. Yet another thing gone :'( !!

I will be glad of suggestions. Enjoy the day. :D
