Europe / Re: Anybody heard of Koona, Russia?
« on: Saturday 03 May 25 16:02 BST (UK)  »
Thanks everyone. Still no definite answer but looks like Koona as a province with Vilnius the nearest major town. He used Koona as his birthplace on all his documents. My next step will be to try and obtain his birth certificate from the Lithuanian authoritys. Regards Glenn

Europe / Anybody heard of Koona, Russia?
« on: Tuesday 22 April 25 11:20 BST (UK)  »
God morning,
Some of my distant relations , Lutherans, moved to the UK then Canada.  One of them states the place of birth, 1896, as Koona, Russia.  Later, 1915 he states Koona ( or Koon ), Poland.

Having searched on line I cannot find a direct link to a current place.  The likely option is Kaunas in Lithuania.

Anybody know for sure?

Thank you in advance.  Glenn

I have had the email below from the Passport Office which basically closes down my enquiry.  I add in full as the information may help other researchers:

Thank you for your message of February 6, 2025.

Please note that Canadian passport records are only retained for 75 years. Unfortunately, we are unable to fulfill your request, as the information you are seeking is no longer available. Additionally, original passport application forms and photos are not kept by the Program.

Canada / Re: Obtaining Canadian (Ontario) Pasport Applications from the 1930's

Good morning PB,
Thankyou for your speedy reply and advice.  Not read all the information on the links you sent but it seems that a one route may be a request under the "Personal Information Request" process but again this is aimed,  quite rightly, at Canadian Citizens.  Maybe I should apply for Canadian citizenship!

It seems sad that this information is lost after 100 years as it would be very useful for Genealogy purposes.  Having said that the UK Passport Office only save data for one year.  A very small number are in the National Archive.

Hopefully moving this topic to the general board as you suggested will provide more information.

Thank you again.

Regards Glenn

Canada / Obtaining Canadian (Ontario) Pasport Applications from the 1930's
« on: Tuesday 04 February 25 17:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I have some correspondence relating to my Nan's and Mother's Passport application from 1935.  Learning that this information is kept for 100 years  I emailed the Passport Office for a copy of the application hoping it would have a picture plus other information.  The initial reply was no.  After challenging this they said I could have a copy if I could prove I was an Executor in my Nans Will!  My Mother was the executor but is now deceased.

Does anyone have experience / knowledge of obtaining Passport applications?  For information I live in the UK.

Thank youin advance. Regards Glenn

Hi,

Not sure if this is the correct way to make contact, however I would apreciate some help in tracking down an ancestor in the Elmira area.
Can you help?

Regards

Glenn
