I am looking into Agnes Purdie who married Peter Bolton in Lanarkshire Scotland in 1900. 31/12/1900. He had a son very quick as shown in the census later, but also two step sons as noted in the entry, William and George Purdie. Here I come unstuck. The entries show mother and sons as being from Ireland and I know she came from Loughconnelly and I know she had a mother Agnes and father Thomas Purdie. Mother was Agnes McAleese. WHat I don't know is where did the sons come from, what was her previous marriage? Why are children called Purdie, like their mother's maiden name, why did she call herself a spinster upon marriage to Peter Bolton? Why did she leave Ireland, I know some of her siblings did the same, WIlliam being one of them, but John didn't seem to. Somewhere in my memory I was told there was a Bolton who had 21 children by 3 wives, all but the last dying, can anyone help? I am stuck.
