Hi,
No reply via email. I'll try to phone directly after the holidays. Apparently, Merthyr library has/used to have a publication with these but I've had no response from them either.

I saw an (old) offer about these RC records on here so thought I'd try again.

I would be grateful for any data about RC baptisms for family 'Dineen/Dinneen/Dinien/Dinane and any other variants of this name. from 1851

Father Bartholomew Dineen (married Ellen Lynch 19/6/1851)
mothers: Ellen Lynch /Ellen Leary

1. Johanna/Hannah - b.abt 1852 ??
2. Charles b. 14 March 1854 (mother Ellen Leary)
3. Daniel b. 20/5/1857 (mother Ellen Leary)
4. Margaret Dineen - b. abt 1862 ?? (my Gt grandmother)

Although the marriage cert shows Bartholomew married an Ellen LYNCH in 1851, the only 2 births certs (Charles & Daniel) I have found both give Ellen LEARY as the mother. I find no records of a death / remarriage. I am hoping church records if available will establish when the baptisms of Johanna and Margaret occurred, their mother's name;  and/or confirm the accuracy of the data on the boys' certs.

Many thanks in advance for any info that might shed light on the anomalies!

Just to add there's an Ellen Lynch 20 from Cork in Merthyr in 1851 unmarried

a visitor to the Burke family along with Daniel Lynch 56 born Cork

I would have suggested he was her father but he is down as unmarried also

Thanks, Yes, I've seen this. Of course, there's no guarantee this the same Ellen Lynch, so I've not added this info to her profile.

When was Bartholomew born?

Was Daniel Dineen born 1857 Merthyr one of theirs, if so his birth is registered but mothers maiden name shown as Leary  :-\

Yes, I have ordered Daniel's birth certificate.  I am trying to solve a number of anomalies by cross-referencing to baptism records. It's the baptismal records I need to make sense of these anomalies you have identified below.

There is a Johanna born 1853 Merthyr same mothers name but not Dineen.

Charles born 1854 Merthyr has same mothers name (Leary) and fathers name Dineen.

Margaret born 1862 Merthyr has same mothers name but not Dineen.

Do you think these are your births despite Leary not being Lynch?

Ellen appears to be "Lynch" when she marries Bartholomew in 1851, from FreeBMD, but she could have been a young widow?

Thanks,
I have already ordered the marriage certificate for Bartholomew and Ellen in 1851 which should confirm her surname and their parents' names. He was born in Ireland about 1828; she about the same time.

However, as previously stated, I am hoping to see baptism records because of gaps, omissions and inconsistencies in the civil records.

I'm looking for RC baptism records in Merthyr Tydfil1850 - 1890 for the surname:
Dineen / Dinien / Dinene / Dinane / possibly other variations - they were even recorded as 'Dinwing' in one of the censuses!
I have been unable to find any civil registrations of the birth of some ancestors and, as they were Irish catholics, I can't imagine they didn't get baptised, so such records are the last resort!

Especially: Margaret Dineen; Johanna / Hannah Dineen; Charles Dineen. Parents: Bartholomew Dineen & Ellen (Lynch).

Any others by this name also welcome as I'm trying to establish kinship with other Dineens. I'd be extremely grateful for this information that anyone has access to.

Diolch /Thanks
