I have finally found Alans Funeral Notice in the SMH 6.7.1970.Seems He was cremated at Eastern Suburbs,

hi there are a number of articles on TROVE regarding John and his kilts, also another obit which lists his children,  so suggest a search on Trove using Fletcher and Kilts, if you have not already checked.
