Hello Tinamac, Well what a lovely surprise, i guess we must be cousins? i would love to hear more about you and your [ our? ] family, where do you live? any way to answer your question i believe walter had at least two and possibly four sisters although i am not 100% on that at the moment, i have started to put a family tree together and have found quite a few names but i need to double check them and get them in some sort of order, i would be glad to share this with you if you are interested, we need to swap email addresses and phone no's but i think you will need to make three posts to this site before you can do this, his sisters are Anastatia, Mary and possibly Margret and eileen, hope this helps, look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you all for your replies i will read up on your suggestions eagerly, I had always assumed that my father had gone to England during the war to enlist but i was told recently by a cousin that he did not go to England until 1949-50 and that during the war he was in the Irish version of the home guard, he says he is certain of this because he would leave his rifle in the hall by the front door and my cousin would " borrow" it to shoot rabbits, dad was in Bennettsbridge Kilkenny at the time.

Thanks again

I am told that my father was in the irish equivalent of the home guard during ww2, does anybody have any information about this service or know where records could be found?

Thank you

thank you once again Jack, it seems as though a lot of irish people emigrated to Australia during the 1800's

Thank you Carmo, that is a big help, i have now checked the census for both years, there seems to have been a large number of this family all over kilkenny and more again in Wexford, i would love to find a link somewhere,
Thank you again.
