Renfrewshire / Re: 14 Inchgreen Street in Greenock 1902 - 1915?

Hi Jennifah

I have a link to your Wilson family. My mother had a cousin named Jeanie McKendry who married James Wilson in Greenock in 1925.  James was the son of Samuel Wilson and Janet Gavin. This Samuel was the son of James Wilson and Eliza Cairns.  I knew that Samuel had a least 2 brothers because they were the informants on the d/cs for the parents James Wilson and Eliza Cairns.  It was not until I read your posting that gave me the clue about Samuels brother William who married Mary Sinnott and their son James married Martha Glass whom I take it are your grandparents? I agree that researching a surname like Wilson is a bit tricky and I've already made a lot of costly errors.    When  James Wilson senior died in 1925  his  son James gave his address as 8 Inchgreen St.   Do you know anything about this James Wilson ?  I'm planning to visit the local Family History Library tomorrow to look them up on the census records on Ancestry.com

Hello Steve

My great grandfather had a sister named Margaret MacMillan who married a Robert Dickie in 1895 in Tullibody.  Margaret died in 1904 and Robert remarried. His #2 wife was  Margaret Page .  Robert died in 1947 at Hollytree House Menstrie. His occupation was a cooper.   The informant on the d/c is his son Robert Dickie .    Robert was the son of Robert Dickie, also a cooper and Jane Paterson

Hello, I've noticed a number of threads on this site regarding Normands.  My gggrandmother was Janet Normand, daughter of Peter Normand and Janet Cramb.  She married John Macmillan in Logie Perth.  One brother, John married Janet Hall daughter of Francis Hall and Ann Muir. Her brother Robert Normand married Mary Laird and her sister Margaret to Robert Hunter.  Do you think we have a connection ?

Hello Jeff

Yes, I have a copy of the d/c for David Stewart who died in 1910.  I live close to a family history library run by the Mormon Church. I ordered the films covering all marriages and death for Edzell and Lochlee from 1855 to 1875 plus 1881 and 1891.  I made notes of ALL entries.  Have you heard of a book titled Glenesk, The History and Culture of an Angus Community by Margaret Fairweather Michie ?  It's mostly about the families of Lochlee.  Your local library may have a copy ?

Hello Jeff

Thank you very much. With your help I found the d/c for John Stewart.  His wife Martha appears to have changed her name to Matilda and that was why I could not find her d/c.  I assume you are looking for the David Stewart son of David Stewart and Jean Donaldson ? I have not come across anything for him either.  I have 5 children for them.   I know  Elizabeth married William Louden and that James married Isabella Simpson Stewart but nothing for the other three.  My main interest started with the name Duke.  My gggrandmother was Elizabeth Duke. She had a sister named Helen who had 2 illegitimate daughters named Elizabeth Beattie and Margaret Edward.  Elizabeth married Robert Innes and Margaret married David Paterson.  I've done a bit of research in the Edzell and Lochlee areas so if you have a question, I would be only too pleased to try and help.

I have a Martha Innes on my tree who married John Dewar Stewart in Lochlee in 1900.  John was the son of David Stewart and Ann Will and his grandparents were William Stewart / Ann Moir and James Will / Jane Rickard.  I can't find a death in Scotland for either John or Martha.  Do these names ring any bells with anyone out there ?

Hello Daryl

I've only just read your message. My gggrandmother was Catherine Bruce, daughter of Andrew Bruce and Helen Mitchell,  Catherine married William Emslie in Montrose.  I did not know the names of Andrew's parents. So thank you for that information. Where are you? I live in New Zealand.  I would be very pleased to hear from you and exchange information.

Sorry, What I did not say was that it was a James Duke in Edzell, Angus who left the money to his grandchild, Jean Ramsay

Since my last posting I have found that David Fleming Scott married Mary Hunter Lowe in Lancashire in 1894. Her parents were James Lowe and Margaret Hunter, for anyone out there who may be interested.  James came from Liverpool but Margaret was from Aberdeen and that is where they married.  James Lowe was a master gardener.

The James Scott who married Mary Cleghorn was the brother of Alexander Scott.  So thank you for that information.  Looks like their daughter Mary married a Currie.  I will look it up on Scotlandspeople.

I have a question for all you experts out there.  One of my ancestors who died in 1869 made a Will in which he left a small amount of money to his grandchild Jean Ramsay.  I have no idea who she is.  I suspect that she is the illegitimate daughter of one of his children.  I'm trying to get a grip on how old Jean would be at the time the Will was made.  Does the fact that the money was NOT left in trust for her until she reached a certain age, relevant, or under Scottish law, could a child inherit money
