Derry (Londonderry) / Re: Falkner/Faulkner family
« on: Thursday 15 November 18 16:03 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks for taking time to help and providing some information...

I should add my best stepping off point was the 1860 census
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GBSC-R1J?i=117&cc=1473181
where it listed...
Bernard (35), Mary McKinney(37) and Sarah(1) all listed as born Ireland
Charles (26) & Margaret Devlin (23)
James Faulkner (29) born Ireland
Jetty (Bridget) (20) born Ireland
Jetty (Bridget) (7) born Ireland

I suspect the McKinney's are related, but could not find them in other records - suspect typo in name when recorded in 1860

James I also assume is a relation but could not find him for sure in later records
I had thought perhaps I could find James and/or Bernard in Civil war muster roles - although there were several hits I could not link any for sure although this one was a possible:
Name:   James Faulkner, Enlistment Date:   Mar 1861, Enlistment Place:   Philadelphia, Age:   28, Birth Year:   1833, Birth Place:   Londonderry, Ireland
----
(Note - There is also a John Bruce Faulkner (abt. 1830) who is somehow related - he emigrated to Chicago but is more elusive than the Philadelphia Faulkners.)
----
Now to answer your questions...
1. Did any of the other girls, besides Bridget born 1853, marry?
- Margaret (b 1851) was not found on the 1860 census - searched for death records - none found
- Margaret (b 1837) married in St Pauls in Philadelphia on 14 Sept 1857 to a Charles Devlin but the city of Philadelphia had no record of her marriage. There was a witness, James Faulkner (No parents listed)
- Could not find Bridget (b 1841) on later census - assumed she married.
- Bridget (b 1853) married W Connacher St Philip Neri 30 Nov 1871 - no parents listed

2. Other than Bridget where and when did they die?
- Margaret died in NYC in May 24, 1897 and her death certificate (#8117) only listed Ireland as place of birth for her and her parents but no names were listed.

Derry (Londonderry) / Falkner/Faulkner family

My G-Grandmother Bridget Faulkner (b. Ireland, Feb 1853) is my brick wall. Unfortunately she left Ireland at a young age and did not travel with her parents.  I believe she emigrated on the Ship Elizabeth from Londonderry Ireland to Philadelphia at 4 years of age arriving May 1857. (J.J Cooke Passenger Lists 1847-1867 notes her address as L'Derry.  Passenger lists show her traveling with Margaret age 5 and Bridget age 16 (relation unknown)).

The only information I have on her parents was from her death certificate. It notes her parents were William Faulkner (b. Scotland) and Mary Smith (b. England). I also know Bridget had an aunt, Margaret Faulkner b. 1837 in Ireland. She also emigrated from Londonderry Ireland to Philadelphia at 17 years of age (Aug 1853). I assume they were born Catholic as they both married in the Catholic church.

At this point I am stuck on ideas on how to locate her parents/other family in Ireland.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Colin,
I see I misread your post and Janet Conachar is the wife of James McDonald married in Dull on 8 June 1792.
See Link for film info from familysearch...
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=recordimage&c=fs:1771074&r=r_695527150&pn=p1

You may also want to check out the record from Logierait that has James McDonald and Janet Connachar on 16 Jun 1792

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=recordimage&c=fs:1771074&r=r_696188750&pn=p1

Assuming there is only one family of James/Janet hey appear to have had 2 children a David MacDonald 28 Apr 1806 to James MacDonald and Jannet Connachar and Donald McDonald 13 Oct 1803 to James McDonald and Jannet Connacher  They both are born in Logierait and can be found on Batch C11376-6 Film 1040125

My ancestors from Logierait and Moulin and had marriages in both parishes which appeared to be the custom at the time(and also misspell the number on n's in Connacher)

I also checked my Janet's from the 1770's and this is what I have:
JANET   CONACHAR   Gender:   Female   Christening:   13   APR   1767   Logierait,   Perth,   Scotland
JANET   CONACHAR   Gender:   Female   Christening:   10   JUN   1770   Logierait,   Perth,   Scotland
Janet   CONACHAR   Gender:   Female   Birth:         1771   Dull,   Perth,   Scotland
Janet   CONNACHAR   Gender   Female   Birth         1771   Logierait,   Perth,   Scotland>

Note: It is interesting to note that a Janet Connachar married a John McDonald on 12 Jun 1792 in Logierait

Hi Colin,
I am curious if you know any details on Janet Connacher?  My ancestors also came from Logierait, but moved to Perth in the late 1790's.  Among my GGG grandfather Charles's children there was a Janet Connacher born 20 March 1803.  The only other Janet's I am aware of born in the area are +/- 10 years from 1800.

John Connacher
