Suffolk / LILLISTONE/WELHAM/BRIDGEMAN of Stowmarket Problem :0)
« on: Saturday 01 January 11 13:42 GMT (UK)  »
Ok. Can anyone help?

For a while I have been tracing an elusive Welham family, originating in the Stowmanrket area. Posting on here has helped me on the way a couple of times, but what follows has always remained just that little bit out of reach!

I have it on good authority that the Welhams were related in someway to the Lillistone family, who I'm told had a shop, and were in Stowmarket during the second world war.

The only thing I have been able to unearth is a marriage in 1876 between  an Albert Charles Lillistone and an Emily Welham. Ok, fine. However census records that follow appear to indicate that her madian name was Bridgeman.

Thinking on, I have found a marriage of a Bridgeman to a Welham in 1857 in the right area, so Emily probably took her mothers name for the wedding - slightly strange I admit.

Does anyone have any suggestions, or know of the Lillistones? I'm also told at least oneof them was the Mayor of Stowmarket for a while.

Cathy,

Thanks for this. I've ordered the certificate and had a quick look on a couple of sites for this . It looks like the one.

Hi,

Sorry to just appear on this thread, but apart from the obvious what were removal orders - in what circumstances were they drawn up?

Cheers

Cathy,

Grateful thanks for the info.

Unfortunatley this isn't the right one.... To many James Howards around I'm afraid.

James is living with Mary and Richard in Rope Walk. That's my one.

Problem still remains, but thanks for looking.

Julie ;D

Dear All,

Apologies about making a mess with info I've provided on this one.  :-\

Hopefully this will make more sense -

Isaac snr was born 1780 - 1790, married Charlotte approx 1811 in Old Newton.
Isaac snr, Charlotte and Isaac jnr were all dead prior to 1837.

John appears on the 1841 census listed as married to Mary, one son (babe) also called Isaac and living in Onehouse. John dies very soon afterwards.
James moved to Ipswich. His two daughters were Charlotte and Lucy.
Mary, Johns widow, also moves to Ipswich after she has remarried to a gent by the surname Lorimer. There are further children in that relationship. Isaac, Mary and Johns son stays with her and her new husband.

I hope this will allow things to progress. Yorkslass, your post sounds promising. Here's hoping  :D

The pottery and pub is for the otherside of the family. I have an interest in the social side of things here, so I will find the book suggested.

Hi,

Thanks both for these replies. Perhaps you are both right in this.

The family did come from Thrandeston, and they definatley appear to be missing 1851 census to 1861 census. I have been informed that during those 10 years mother has 2 further children, George and Agnes, then 1861 mother and children x3 are all back in Thrandeston.

I have never come across this situation before, so I never considered that the mother may well have "registered" twice.

Does this make any sense to anyone who knows more than me  ???

Thanks

Hi,

Just saw your post as I was about to close.

Have a word with the Suffolk Record Office. You can get the number through an online search. If he was in the cemetary in Ipswich, they have a listing of burials. The only thing is that I'm not sure of dates, but they will advise.

Good luck

Julie
