World War One / Lawrence Sheehan - Wireless Operator on HMAT Karoola
« on: Tuesday 04 April 17 10:26 BST (UK) »
Lawrence was born in Smeaton Victoria in 1888 and worked as a telegraph operator at Ballarat West. During WW1, he worked as a wireless operator on HMAT Karoola. He died in 1949. Even varying the spelling of his Christian name and surname, I have not been able to identify an appropriate record at either the Australian War Memorial or the National Archives. I presume that as a crew member of a transport ship, he did not have to enlist and there are no embarkation details for him. Would appreciate any suggestions as to where to look for further information.
