Dublin / Re: Bushes Cross Guns Public House
« on: Friday 07 February 14 16:31 GMT (UK)  »
Is there an online trade directorythat might help me. I'm trying to find out who was the landlord of the Bushes Cross Guns Public House after my Great Uncle Michael Bushe died around 1953.My mother many years ago talked of a Dr Willie Bushe but I think she might be confusing  things with William Bushe, another Great Uncle of mine who ran another pub in Dorset street.

I remember this pub quite well, as it stood out as a kid. We were unsure if we were related, but the unusual spelling of name made it a possibility. When I began researching my family, I found that my Great Grandfather was born and lived directly behind this pub. His father was from southside, but they lived in Eglinton Tc with his mothers parents.
The close proximity means it woukld be very unusual if they were not related?
My Gt Grandfather was William J Bushe b1885, and my Gt Gt Grandfater John Bushe b 1859.
Does this match anything you may have?

Phil

Seems to be loads of Thomas, Arthur and Samuel bushes....
Im aware of a Thomas (My Gt Grandfathers brother) but he was born in Dublin in 1903 I think

Do you have any Dublin Bushes?
All Bushes came from Kilkenny / Waterford in ireland, direct descendants of brothers Arthur and Amias bushe who came as part of the plantations (Cromwell)

Sorry, also meant to say that both parents John and Phoebe were deaf and dumb but it seems all the children had full hearing etc

Hi there, I am a direct descendant of this family. I am from Dublin and my grandfather Raymond was eldest son of William J Bushe, Wingfields eldest brother. They were born in a house now gone in Eglinton Tce beside Royal Canal in Phibsboro, and moved to St Margarets st beside Croke Park by 1901. I am researching a lot on them. I know William was in The Scottish Rifles in WWI and Wingfield was a musician in the army based in Essex or Kent. Sadly, by 1911 their father John was dead, and their Mother Phoebe Anne Curley had moved to Somerset with their eldest daughter Mary Jane. Sadly it seems Mary Jane died shortly after in 1912 aged about 17 or 18. When their mother moved, the younger children (Kathleen, Lily, Phoebe and Thomas) were placed in orphanges in Dublin... thats as far as i have got. I spent  a lot of time with my Grandy but he died in 1901, and I never thought to ever ask after his family.. pity.
