Hi I have also been researching Goudie - I have found that Bruce Goudie (1838-1896) had a brothe Laurence (1840-) They were born Gaudie but he changed it to Goudie when he migrated to New Zealand. Although his mother'd death certificate also had the name Goudie. I think there was also a possibility that the handwriting and/or pronunciation changed.
