Hi Doddie,

I've been trying to find out if the 1808 Catholic census included Urquhart. I suggest you contact the Local Heritage Centre in Elgin, via http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp
and see if they can help.

Hi Doddie,

Bear in mind that the "son-in-law" informant may have been wrong when giving parents names. I had it happen to me. Luckily mine was in more recent times and the erroneous mothers maiden name was easily spotted.

I would suggest any location mentioned in more than one census would be more accurate. Any placename would probably have been supplied by his wife or close family member who would have known is birthplace. Possibly even visited the place.

I also have GRANTs in Arradoul so do you know your Elspeths parents?

Regards
George

Aberdeenshire / Alexander COBBAN b.1898 Abd

I am stuck on this Alex. Looking for descendants.

b.24 Nov 1898, 171 Skene St.West,Aberdeen

Mother was Margaret Walker COBBAN who subsequently married Jan 1903, Barnyards, Milltimber, West Peterculter, Abd. George Davidson JAMIESON

Have tried researching under both COBBAN and JAMIESON but found nothing.

Alex had an older brother John George, b.1896 Peterculter, Aberdeen, who used the name COBBAN rather than JAMIESON.

John George COBBAN was living at 228 Lavender Hill, Enfield, Middx when he registered his fathers death in 1958. The family group had travelled down c1903 from Aberdeen and were in, or around, the same area. I suspect John George either followed or was there on own account.
