I think the old kirk in Cullen house grounds was originally called St Mary's. Not certain about this as I left Cullen in 1960.
Good luck with your searchs. Cullen Past & present is a really good site so you maybe lucky there

There is a very good book called 'The People of Glengarry', Highlanders in Transition, 1745 -1820 written by Marianne McLean. It is published by McGill-Queen's University Press.
It gives a lot of detail about the McDonnells from The Scottish west coast & who were cleared from there to Glengarry, Ontario.
Good luck, George B

Hi Jessie,
It certainly looks like Thomas McGill & Helen Pringle were her parents.
Helen seems to have been born around 1821 at Pencaitland.

Thanks Sandra,
As you see from my last old post on the same subject I had been to the cemetery a few years ago & photographed some of the headstones. Henry A.Bertram died on the 20th Dec 1894 in Klerkdorp Hospital. S.A. I have his death Notice which, strangely does not state the cause of death. His occupation was an 'Amalgamator' in the mines.
I was hoping that there was still someone in Arthur who knows something of the three who remained there. George, who married Mary Edwards were probably too old to have family.
James the oldest son ended up in Mexico & I have been in contact with two of his Granddaughters.
Thank you for the reply

I'm looking for any information on the Bertram family who lived in Arthur township, Wellington North, Ontario.
Father John died in 1925 & wife Helen (Ellen) in 1922 at Lot 19 Walton Street.
Three of their children look like they lived all their lives in or around Arthur.
George b.19 Dec 1872--d.23 June 1935 ( married Mary Edwards on 14 Dec 1927 @ Mount Forest)
Agnes Mary b. 19 Dec 1876 ---d 1955
Thomas b. 16 Sept 1879----d.1960     All thee were born in Arthur & are buried in the cemetery just outside Arthur.(Greenfield?)
There was a further three children, Elizabeth, James & Henry but I have managed to trace them OK.
Hopefully someone from Arthur has knowledge of this family. Thanks

East Lothian (Haddingtonshire) / Campbells in Dunbar
« on: Friday 14 March 14 20:23 GMT (UK)  »
Am looking for any information on William Campbell who married Catherine McDonald @ Old Broomhouse, Spott on 25th Feb 1859.
It states on their marriage cert that they were cousins.
They had two children, William b 5th Mar 1860 @ the West Port, Dunbar & Isabella b 3rd Aug 1862 @ Belhaven, Dunbar.
William was born abt 1835 in Duirinish, Skye to Donald Campbell & Mary McLeod. ( they were married 27 Jan 1831 in Duirinish). My G. Grandfather Norman b 1832 was William's brother. G.Grandfather Norman went to Oldhamstocks sometime after the 1851 census.( & married Christina McLean @ Innerwick on 15th May 1859)
Catherine McDonald would have been the daughter of Donald McDonald & Isabella Campbell.
Donald & Isabella would both be children of Kenneth Campbell 1775 -1859 & Margaret McLean.
Any info on this family especially the children William & Isabella would be welcome.
( G.G.grandfather Donald d 13th June 1861 @ Oldhamstocks & G.G.grandmother Mary d 23 Sept1884 @ Birnieknowes, Oldhamstocks).
Rgds, George Bertram

Neil also had a son Norman. On 9th Jan 1857 Norman married Isabella McDonald @ Stenton, Haddingtonshire. Norman was 23 & a tailor to trade in Loanhead.
Isabella was the daughter of Donald McDonald & Isabella Campbell. Whether they were also from Skye I've yet to discover.

Berwickshire / Re: Nisbet - Coldingham
« on: Monday 30 July 12 14:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
I have a few more Johnstons in George & Mgt Nisbets family.
In addition to George 1811, James 1807, John 1818 & Alison 1812 I have
Helen b abt 1816,  Janet b abt 1821, William abt 1823 & Elizabeth abt 1808.
I cannot find a birth record for Elizabeth but on the 21st March 1834 she married John Bertram @ Coldingham. She died Prenderguest, Ayton, Berwickshire on 24 Sept 1857. They had 4 sons:
John 1835 died 1925 at Arthur, Ontario,
George 1837 died 1911 ( my g.grandfather) @ Drem, East Lothian,
Thomas 1841 died 1908 @ Willington, Durham,
James 1849 died 1924 @ Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne.
I have George Johnston being born @ East Barns, Dunbar, East Lothian on 17th Jan 1777 & he died @ Templehall, Coldingham on 20th Aug 1855
Mgt Nisbet b. 6th June 1784 @ West Calder, Berwickshire, died 5th Dec 1829 @ Coldingham.
I have George's parents as James Johnston abt 1835 & Alison Fowler.
Mgt Nisbet's parents as William Nisbet & Jean Calder ( but not certain abt Jean Calder). There seems to be a few choices here so mine maybe wrong.
Best wishes, George
