Hi Kerry,

I've only just seen your post about James Brinkley.

My daughter in law is a Brinkley and I'm researching her family and also have James in my tree.

I have a baptism for James in April 1879 in Whinchmore Hill, Middlesex.  Father's name Valentine Brinkley, a wireworker maker, Mother Rhoda Brinkley.   I know somewhere in my notes I have Rhoda as Rhoda Smith, she married Christopher Smith at some point.

I'm only guessing and will try to find out but I'm wondering if James did die in 1907 in Edmonton Middx as my Brinkley's were in the Herts Middx areas.  There was a James Brinkley who died in Greenwich in 1915, wondering which is 'ours'.  Did you find out anymore information after these posts in April?

Edmund Bidgood was my husband's  gt gt gt grandfather.   His grandfather was Arthur Cecil, his great grandfather was Edmund Luther Upright and gt gt grandfather Edmund Bidgood.

Thomas Theophilus married Wendy's 3x gt grandmother - that is Wendy on the other  posts in this thread.

Thanks ever so much again Valda.  This is great.  I will check it all out.  I reckon Dora would be Theodora.

Thank you again, off to check this free 1911 census.  It will come in very handy.

Best wishes,

Sue

Hi,

Thank you so much for this.  I thought I had to pay to search the 1911 census.   I'm still new to this.  Thanks also for the link.    I think this might take me a while to solve, if ever.

Best wishes,

Sue

Thank you Trish!   That fills me with confidence!!    ;D   Seriously though, thanks very much for looking and replying.

I've had my son, daughter in law and granddaughter here for a few days so not had chance to have a proper search but just kicked them uot so I can start looking now.   ::)  Joking.

I wish the family were still here for me to ask but my in laws are all dead, just got my husband left and he's in a home with alzheimer's disease and my sister in law and she doesn't know anything.  It's soo frustrating!   The Arthur Cecil in Edmonton you found in the 1911 must be him, surely?  There can't have been many Arthur Cecil Uprights in Edmonton!!!  I have no idea what age he was when adopted by the Moorhouse family.  Or how they did it, if it was done 'properly' or he was handed over so to speak.

I've looked on A****** and I found a Theodora Billing and her mother Elizabeth Cameron!!!!  Elizabeth born 1840 - 1913 and Theodora 1877 in Sussex.  I don't do complicated!!!  I agree with you, I thought Theodora or Dora could be his mother.  I will keep on looking, thanks so much.  I'll look into getting the 1911 census.
I'll let you know if I find anything.

Hi,

I keep reading this and just have to ask....... :)    my husband's granddad was adopted by the family and no-one seemed to know why or where from.  I can't believe that but they're all dead and gone now.     I have his birth cert received today and it says Arthur Cecil Upright, born 1903 Tottenham and his father was Edmund Upright and it lists him as a 'Theatre Actor'.  His mother is down as Dora Upright, formerly Cameron.  I've looked up births and marriages for both of them and the 1901 census and can't find a thing.

I wondered if he used a stage name.  At the moment I don't have any info at all apart from the birth cert.  It struck me when I saw the name Upright in your posts.

Anyone able to help please?

Thanks so much for reading.

Hi,   I've found a baptism record for my husband's grandfather in 1904 and his father is listed as a 'public entertainer'.  Does anyone know what he would have done please.

Thank you.

Hope it's ok for a newbie to butt in.  My daughter in laws family were 'hawkers' called Brinkley.  I found them on the 1881 census.  It just said caravan on Cuffley Road, Herts. Soo annoying.    His wife's name was Cinderella and she is on the census as Rella.    It's so frustrating!  ::)
