As Mabel Bagshawe said there are missing 1861 censues. Those on the FindMyPast do not include the area Tredgar Rd was in, however, those are only the ones known (as the description says).

So looking at Trdegar Rd, there would appear to be missing houses.

The houses go 50-54 on schedule 66-70 p. 11 f 70, followed by 54-59 schedules 71-77 on what would be page 12.

Not sure if the enumerator has made a mistake then because the next page in the sequence is page 19 but numbered folio 71, for houses numbered 87-92, schedules 118-127.

So it would appear that pages 13 -18 are missing for house numbers 60-86. Number 59 was to let and the next entry is no. 87, which should obviously start on a non-existant previous page, since it's for Llewellyn Lloyd aged 5 born Rhymney, down as a son. However although there would appear to pages missing, the folio numbers look to be sequentially correct 70-71.

Edward Watkins born Penderin Breconshire, Catherine born Llangatwg Glamorgan, and Gwenllian aged 14 born Bedwellty, are at Tredegar Rd in 1851

Thanks so much for your quick reply, unfortunately this does not seem to be the Thos Weir I am researching!

Do you mean the 68 year old Thos Weir in the death notice is also not the one you are looking for.

The information on address from the probate record matches the newspaper clipping but appears to be the wrong person  :)

Rosie

Yes thanks for pointing that out Rosie. I wasn't sure if the original poster was wanting info on this man or the man who died in 1887 aged 73, or in fact the other Thomas Weir who died in 1888 aged 61, who's also buried at Danygraig Cemetery. Reading your post however, you seemed to be implying there's a probate for someone with the right name and right address who is the wrong person - so who is that for ?

There are a number of results for "Wier" when searched on the Cambrian Online index. The actiual articles are not however online, but are accessible via the Swansea Library or West Glam Archives.  https://www.swansea.gov.uk/cambrian?lang=en

Looking at the info available in the indexed entries, there would appear to be more than one Weir family living in Swansea.

Looking for one around the time of the 1849 death, this Thomas Weir could in fact be Thomas John(e)s Weir who married Catherine Kynaston in Penally 9 Mar 1827. He was described on marriage certs of some of his children including 23 Dec 1862, Briton Ferry, of Charles Bridger Wier to as Thomasine Lowether as  "Lieutenant in the army. On Charles's baptism at St Clears
22 Oct 1833 Thomas Johns Weir is decsribed as " Gentleman."

On son John Alexander Weir's marriage cert 3 Dec 1870 at Kenwyn Cornwall as "Luit 1st Foot "

He is at High st St Clears 1841 with wife and family Class: HO107; Piece: 1382; Book: 1; Civil Parish: St Clare; County: Carmarthenshire; Enumeration District: 1; Folio: 7; Page: 5; Line: 11; GSU roll: 464309

There are also trees for the above.

The original newspaper clipping is from the British Army Despatch 28 Dec 1849, p1232.

Therefore the Thomas Weir named in that notice aged 68, was born in 1781.
