Hello Billinge

Rose Purcell was my GGgrandmother( on my Grandmother Jane Donnelley Fathers side,) Andrew Donnelley  was my Great grandfather , his father James Donnelley was married to Elizabeth Timmons, Elizabeth was Francis Timmons and Rose Purcell Daughter. I had no idea until very recently that my Ancestry began in Ireland( That could explain my lifelong fondnes for  Irish people) Jane Donnelley ( my Grandmother was born in Motherwell she married Michael Mckeown(his  family also  originate from Ireland( Co Longford I think)
Their daughter Grace ( Mckeown ) was my mum( now deceased ) My mum and dad  and me  moved to England after the war (as there was no work in Motherwell at the time.) Hope you find this info helpful  Frilly

Hello Johni
I have only recently joined this site. Rose Purcell was myGGGGgrandmother( I think I have this line ancestry correct ) Just to give you the info I have ,( and maybe  a little bit of info you may not have  ) John.My Greatgreatgrandfather was a James Donnelly married to E;izabeth Timmons, his son my Greatgrandfather was Andrew Donnelly, Andtrews Daughter ( my Grandmother)Jane Cassidy Donnelley  was born in Motherwell, and married my Grandad Michael Mckeown mum Grace (Mckeown )
John this is just a brief outline  of how the family line has descended. I  have my family tree on GenesReunited , but wiil happily let you have more details, so just ask me any questions  you may want answering  frilly

Rose Purcell was my great great grandmother. We knew her as Roseana, although she is listed variously as Rose Ann and Rosa. The 1851 Census shows her aged 35(?) and living with her husband Francis Timmons in the village of Chapelhall, Lanarkshire,Scotland. They have two children living with them, John (18) a coal miner and Susan (14). Another daughter, Rosa(11) is listed as a servant with a local family. I have traced a further daughter Elizabeth who married a James Donnelly in Baillieborough in 1849. It would seem that she did not come to Scotland until circa 1855, ultimately settling in Mothewell. The Register for Deaths Lists a Rose Ann Timins as having died on the 18 Dec. 1879 in the Poor House, Motherwell aged 74.The entry lacks the usual names and professions of her father and mother but I have no doubt that this is Rose Purcell.

Thank you Turnerchimes for your prompt replty AND the tips!!!! Frilly

Hi Frilly -
No, sorry.  Too long a shot I think :)

My family are from Co. Derry and not Co. Cavan.  Although there were lots of Donnelly's and Cassidy's in these parts. You will need to try and narrow down where your family are from.  Perhaps there may be clues on Jane Donnelly's birth certificate or entry in a parish register in Scotland or you could try and locate the marriage for Mary Ann Miller and Andrew Donnelly as this may give you a better indication of what area they were from in Ireland.
Good Luck!

Hello Turnerchimes
This is just  a long shot ,but my Grandmother Jane Cassidy Donnelly  was born in SCotland in 1887. Her mother was a Mary Ann Miller and her father was Andrew Donnelly  My Greatgrandfather James Donnelley was born in Ireland  I think it might have been County Cavan   Given that my Granmothers Granmothert name was Cassisdy. I have a feeling they were all born and knew each other in Ireland before they came to Scotland Regards Frilly

Hello Frilly,

This looks a very good possibility for Mary Starkey, born about 1850. born Duntocher, according to several census reports.

1851. census Main Street, Kerrs Property, Duntocher.

Hugh Shirky, Head, M. M. age 24 years, Lab at Coal Works, born Ireland,
Marjory Shirky, Wife, M. F. age 23 years, born Ireland,
John Shirky, Son, M. age 4 years, born Dunbarton, Duntocher,
Mary Jane Shirky, Daugh, F. age 10 mons, born Dunbarton, Duntocher,
John McLaughlan, Lodger, U. M. age 21 years, Lab in Coal Works, born Ireland.

The marriage date for above couple Hugh Starkey, and Marjory Burns, married 13/June/1846. Old Kilpatrick, Dunbarton.

As Monica, stated in previous post if you get the marriage of Thomas McKeon, and Mary Sharkey, this will verify the parents of Thomas, and Mary.

Regards,
Jonn
