World War One / George Tennant

My great uncle George Tennant was killed in the battle of the Somme 1916. He was in the Leicester Tiger Regiment, but this is all I know about him. I would love to know his rank and number and possibly where he is buried.

Yes you are right, it only gives the date and place. Not sure where to go from here but have written to a couple of church references including one in Endrans, maybe they may help.

Thanks Debbie, I don't think he was killed in the line of duty but get the feeling he was attacked in relation to when he was in the police at some time.

Yes something does not add up, one or the other records must be wrong. On the second figures he would have been about 62 at death. I will contact the church, as there were two references to him preaching in "Rivers" as well as Portage le Prairie. I am going to apply for his death certificate and failing all else will consider a "Working" holiday in Canada as this is becoming a personal challenge.

Hi Susan, Yes there are two of his children still alive one son and one daughter both of which I have had contact with, and that is where the beaten up theory came from. It's possible he was in the local police and not the mounties but he was also a lay preacher at some time. It's beginning to look as though I am not meant to know the answer to this. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for that, I have now found the plot numbers and burial area. All I need now is the reason he died or what of. I have been led to believe he was beaten up and died from his injuries but cannot confitrm it.

Thanks for that. I have marriage and death certificates for Frederick who was my wifes father, Cyril was his brother. My wife would like to trace his past family as she has little knowledge of any grand parents.
