Thank you for this Alan.  This looks to be a serious possibility.  I will take a look at the 1841 UK Census.

Hello;

I am at an impasse with my searching, saw your post, and am hoping that someone might have information about my Stuart/Stewarts of Gateside, believed to be Gateshead, Durham, England.  Here is the pertinent information that was gleaned from a researcher, who attempted to assist, and after running out of money to give him to go on, I decided to give it a go.
In his daughter's birth entry in 1855, in Kilwinning, Ayrshire, Scotland,  Peter Stewart/Stuart was noted as having been born in 1826 in Gateside, County Durham, England. My researcher deduced that the Durham 'Gateside' appears to be a variant of Gateshead, and he suspected this was the Kilwinning registrar recording what he thought he had heard, as there are many places in Scotland called Gateside, but very few if any in England.
Here is what we have:
The only possible birth that fits is that of a Peter STEWART born in 1827:
Source: IGI
Peter STUART, son of William STUART and Martha
Born 1 FEB 1827, christened 25 MAR 1827, Gateshead, County Durham
He also checked the English non-conformist records at www.thegenealogist.co.uk/bmdr/ and nothing was found, so he felt this is almost certainly my man.

Using the Record Pilot Search facility at FamilySearch (http://pilot.familysearch.org), there  was a duplicate entry of Peter's baptismal record from the original baptismal register within the Bishops' Transcripts for Durham (p.223 of 558, Durham, Gateshead, 1823-1832 - christening 25 MAR 1827)

Any thoughts, ideas?
Thanks
