Canada Lookup Request / Re: John F Sinclair
« on: Monday 05 May 25 11:06 BST (UK)  »
Appreciate you trying. It would make searching so much easier if the middle name was used. I did come across a marriage of a John Sinclair and Margaret Trindle in 1939 but wasn't sure if it was the correct person.

I've posted previously about my search for information on a John Findlay Sinclair:

https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=882291.msg7550282#msg7550282

He was born in South Queensferry, Scotland in 1904 and turns up on the 1931 Canadian census living in the Flin Flon Settlement in Manitoba. He is not on the National Registration File of 1940. I am revisiting my search and am posting in the hopes that someone maybe able to help me to move a little closer to finding out what happened to him. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Cause of death
« on: Wednesday 01 January 25 18:41 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks for all your suggestions - they are helpful. I did wonder if the word at the end of the first line was other.

The section is taken from a death certificate (1857) from Scotland's People. The place of death was Edinburgh.

I'm struggling to read the cause of death (column one) and place of burial (column two) from a death certificate. Can anyone help please?

I think they are the marriages of three different James Frasers:
- Elizabeth Simpson and Margaret Nimmo
- Marion Black
- Helen Ballantine and Catherine Balfour. Also married Mary Hunter/Stein in 1883.

Helen Ballantine died in January 1868 (aged 26) of TB so that would match with what you found in the Communion Rolls records. On her death certificate it states she was ill for 12 months. I also found a Helen Ballantine (age 18) on the 1861 census living in the household of Janet Balfour. Helen is listed as a niece. Not sure if this is the same one.

I'll have a look at the record you found. Appreciate the help.

The parish is Carriden but can find neither a birth or death certificate.

Thanks for trying. I'll add it to my list of mysteries!
