World War Two / looking for
« on: Monday 06 May 19 06:26 BST (UK)  »
HI, this is hard but I'm searching for anything to do (especially his regiment ID) William Fletcher born 29/9/1913 Southbank in Cleveland.  d:18/9/2003. what i know is he joined as regular soldier 1932 East Yorkshire reg. He was in the BEF in France 1940, became one of the earliest parachutists joining 2 para battalion.  One of Major Frosts company in Bruneval raid 1941. Tunisia 1942, 2nd Battalion for Arnhem commanded by John Frost.  Had 1939/45 Star, African Star, Italy Star, French/Germany Star, Defence Medal and War Medal.  This is all i know of my grandfather, he died in Melbourne, Australia and there has been article written on him from bafa.org.au and that is about all i know, he married my grandmother Betty Readman (formally Norman) in the UK.  I have that type but i would like to know more about him.
I would really appreciate if anybody could even help in telling me how to get hold of his regiment number.  thankyou

thank you for the links, it is so interesting,  I did come across the road of one of my ancestors and where I think they lived so that was exciting.

Hi Evie and Mike

Just having a quick look before work time.  Wow lots of information to sift through,  hopefully not busy at work so I can go through it.  Thankyou for this, I am so excited you have no idea, I cant wait to start on the other half of the names (Norman) but its going to be just as tough.  I have to say without people like you assisting people like me would give up.

thank you again

wow that would have taken me ages to find that.  I would be so appreciated with my schedule I can only get 15 minutes per day.
I think my problem is I am trying 4 different families at once and getting confused.  I think I will just stick with Readman clan for now..... I will write all this information up and let it sink in....
Thankyou again....

this is where I am unsure, he married Emily May Winter but that is all I know!  I am guessing that his parents are William and Jane and yes I am looking for his ancestors...

thank you for the quick response
