The 1861 census lists William and Mary Ann Hopkins as living at 13 Buckingham Square, but I can't work out where this is! I've checked old maps from the era and still can't find it, does anyone know where this is?

Thanks for that :) I'm having a few website issues today! :) I think it's looking like it is the right Samuel too as he vanishes after this. There's a Sarah Wignall getting married at the registary office a few years later too, so I wonder if that was his wife remarrying, as I think they could do after 7 years or something or another :D

Thanks all! :)

I've found he was the Hougoumont, which was the last ship to leave. Not sure if that was lucky or unlucky :P

It's for a Samuel Wignall from Lancashire, convicted July 1866.

In 1866 one of my relatives was given a ten year penal servitude sentence. Does this mean his was bounced off to Oz or could he have done his time in the Uk? How do I find out where he served his time?

Lancashire / Sarah Wignall (nee Fawcett)
« on: Wednesday 01 September 10 17:40 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know anything about her?

She was born around 1815, she married John Wignall in Preston in 1836, gave birth to Samuel in 1838 and promptly vanishes!
John remarries in 1840 and Samuel is on the census still living with him in 1841, so I think we can assume Sarah died, but I'm struggling to find where and when etc. I have found a listing for a Sarah Wignall d. Jan-Mar 1840 in Chorley, but I can't find out anything more. I've even squinted my way through newspaper archives, and can only find the marriage.

If anyone knows anything, please let me know, Thanks!
