Fermanagh / Re: Edward Boyle - Templecarn ca 1820

Hello Margaret

Edward Boyle is also my great, great grandfather and his daughter Catherine is my great grandmother. So it looks likely that your friend and I are actually quite closely related.  I have sent you an offline message and perhaps we can exchange information.

Kind regards, Ken

There is an organisation called Logie Old Graveyard group (Logieogg) who have a website www.logieogg.com   They have been recording the stones in recent years and may be able to help.

Lanarkshire / Re: GLASGOW .. Western Necropolis Cemetery

I paid the £60 to Glasgow City Council to locate the grave of my great-grandfather in the city.  They found him in the Western Necropolis and could not have been more helpful.  The grave was unmarked but they put in a wooden marker in the appropriate position and gave me the contact details of a member of the cemetery staff who took me to the actual spot.  So sometimes it is worth paying for something.

A family of Americans are visiting Dundee in the summer of this year.  Has anyone researched the Courtney family in Dundee in the 1880's.   James Courtney married in 1881 Christina Lapen and one child was Andrina Smith Thomson Courtney.  Does that ring a bell in your own researches?  I know that the family would be thrilled if there were any descendants from that marriage and siblings of Andrina.  Thanks for your help.

Hello rhec

This may not be relevant to your Simpson search.  I have checked the Medal Roll for the 2nd Anglo Afghan War for the 78th (Seaforth) Highlanders.  There was only one Simpson mentioned, and he may not be one of yours? However, John  Simpson, Pipe Major, 78th Highlanders (Service no 1827)was awarded a medal for his service in the conflict.  The report was issued at Lucknow in 1882

Hope this helps

Essex / Duncan Gray - Alresford, Essex 1939
« on: Thursday 23 September 10 17:08 BST (UK)  »
I am researching Duncan Gray, described on his death certificate 1 May 1939 as "Retired Farmer", with the address "Alva Glen, Alresford, Essex"  Can anyone help with the location of "Alva Glen" - was it a house or farm?  He died in Essex County Hospital but I have as yet no idea where he might have been buried.  A request to the local vicar in Alresford did not find a grave.  Has anyone seen a Duncan Gray grave?

Stirlingshire / Re: Airthley Castle
« on: Wednesday 15 September 10 18:05 BST (UK)  »
I have information on Airthrey Castle Maternity Hospital as abbreviated versions of two papers delivered to The Scottish Society of the History of Medicine meeting in 1987, by the Medical Officer for Health 1939-1948, and the Consultant Obstetrician 1948-1969, when the unit transferred to Stirling Royal Infirmary.  If of interest I'll try to scan them and email them to you. (I'm not exactly sure how to do that!!) Perhaps you can advise me.
