Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Luke and Mary Madden nee Jenkins
« on: Friday 18 October 13 13:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I hope that this info is helpful for your search. I am Rebecca McCourt's (nee Watts 1st married name Jenkins), great x 3 grand daughter. Rebecca was born in August 1834 to William and Mary Ann Watts in Berrynarbour, Ilfracombe, Devon. She was one of 6 children. William died in 1839 and Mary Ann in 1844, both in Devon. William left a will providing for his family, a house and orchard. I don't know what happened but Rebecca and her brother Joseph lived as house servants to a John Watts in 1851 on West Hagginton Farm, Ilfracombe. In 1858 Rebecca married William Jenkins (aka Jenkinson), in Llandaff, Glamorganshire. William was born in Westmorland in 1832 to James Jenkinson and Margaret (nee Swainson). William was an agricultural labourer then Husbandman (1851 census). On the 1861 census they were living in Birkenhead and had one daughter Ellen, (aka Eleanor) born in 1859. William was a dock labourer. They had another daughter in c1863, Mary Ann Jenkins. William died in 1864. Rebecca married Peter McCourt in 1867 and had 4 children, Catherine b 1868;William& James b 1870; and Emily b1874. Mary Ann married Luke Madden and had a son Thomas. Luke was born in Ireland c 1848.
Rebecca lived in Bootle at the time of her death in 1923, she lived with her daughter Emily, married name Summers) and her family. Thanks for posting and if by any chance you have any more info please let me know. I know it's a long shot but do you have any early photos? I would love to see any photos of Rebecca and her family, if you do please post them, that would be great. As for my line back to William and Rebecca, their other daughter Ellen married my great x2 grandfather Michael Joseph Bracken, in 1877 in Liverpool and had 7 children.

Hi yes I am part of that family. Florence Foley was my maternal grand mother although I never knew her. she was the youngest of thirteen, but only five survived infancy. Her mother was Margaret Foley Nee Connor, father was William(sugar refiners labourer), they married in 1885.Their children:
Mary b1888 known as cissy. She died in the May Blitz in Bootle in 1941, she was married then (Mary Sinclair), her death is commemorated in the role of honour at the Commonwealth War Grave Commission. She had a son William.
Margaret b 1890, she married John Carroll and lived in Litherland and owned a sweets and tobacconist shop. no children.
Catherine, (or Katie) b1895 married Ted Burns and lived in Anfield, Liverpool. she had 4 children, Edward;John;Gerald;Joan.
Elizabeth, (Lizzie) b1902 married James Byrne in 1924 and lived on the Wirral. They had 8 children, Margaret;Tommy'Alec'Geoffrey;Elizabeth;Paul;Roger and Maria.
Florence b 1905 married John Bracken in 1930. She died in 1951, a pulmonary thrombosis I think. She had had TB during her life and was never really in good health. She had 4 children, Sheila(my mum),maureen, john and david.
Margaret Connor was from Co Wexford, Ireland. William Foley was from Wexford too. William's father was named John, as was Margarets. I hope this helps your quest.  I'd be very interested to know where you fit in and to find out if you have any missing pieces of the story.  Regards

Is hilaryanne still looking for the Foley family? I think we may both be part of the same family, or at least the same quest.
