Angus (Forfarshire) / Re: FERRIER of Angus

HI to all the Ferriers on  this website.

Wow! I am really impressed.

I have recently been introduced to the Ferrier family via one of my step-daughters whose natural father is James Richard F. (b. Geelong, Victoria, Aus. 1941).

Her GF: William John F. (b Queenscliff, Victoria, Aus 1907).

GGF: William John F (b. Warrnambool, Victoria, Aus 1881).

GGGF: John Robert Ferrier (b. Warrnambool, Victoria, Aus 1858).

On making inquiries to the Warrnambool Maritime Museum, step daughter discovered that the elder Wm John Ferrier is to be honored next month (August 21) for his bravery in rescuing passengers from the shipwreck La Bella, 1905.  He was presented with a bravery medal and a small purse of donations - also a congratulatory letter from the Governor-General and one from the Victorian Governor.

My step daughter, once her credentials were proven as one of the descendants, has been invited to attend this celebration which will involve a new light show about the shipwreck and rescue.

She is now fired with enthusiasm and wanting to know more about her ancestors and I found on IGI a listing for John Ferrier as the father of John Robert Ferrier.

Here is where the conflict comes in.  IGI lists John Ferrier as born 1830 in Cardross, Dunbarton, Scotland yet another member of the family has his birthplace as being Arbroath, Angus, Scotland.

I cannot link up with either of these births.  Will post more later but would appreciate some help or guidance.
