Thanks, KG. So far, so good.  RM8 is easy on the eyes and I like it -- so far:)

Family History Beginners Board / RootsMagic Baptism
« on: Thursday 13 October 22 14:26 BST (UK)  »
Would a kind soul kindly help me with problems switching from Legacy Family Tree 9 to RootsMagic 8?
My LFT database is moderately large with lots of sources; qualitative info; photos; and similar precious stuff as well as all the usual data.
How can I be sure that my entire LFT database will be safely transferred to RM.
LFT is a super program but its interface is old-fashioned.  I'm impressed by RM and would willingly switch but I'm not risking 20 years hard labour:) -- even for RM.
If this is the wrong forum for my question, please re-direct me.  Thanks in advance for any help.

With my abject apologies to Eyesee, aka Ian C, for not following up on our exchange on this site, may I ask you, Ros, to let me have access to the information on EDC's children which you've come across. Please let me know how this can be done. Kind regards, Guy K

Ian:
Thanks so much for your reply.
I have a feeling that the same version is being relayed. Of course, the version may well be accurate but, without sound corroboration like some mention among EDC's papers and letters, I place it on a similar footing to a conjecture in mathematics -- probably true but not yet proven? If the story is true, I suspect you're right that Elizabeth was a servant of the Thanets. Her son Edward went to sea at the age of 12 and did pretty well despite not having had, apparently, much of an education. He wrote a couple of books about his daring voyages; became a big noise in a shipping concern; and was promoted a Rear in 1858.
I might have added that my relationship to EDC is, at best, distant. Edward Chappell's daughter married a Proby. Their elder daughter married my great-grandfather Armstrong, which was my mother's maiden name.
I'm ashamed to say that PM is an acronym I'm not yet familiar with. Please put me right and I'd be delighted to be in touch with you as long as we don't risk being badgered by the purely curious or the scroungers.
Best wishes, Guy K

With a stroke of luck my post won't go unnoticed despite the lapse between your post and mine. If my records are anything like correct, Edward Daniel Clarke is also my 4x great-grandfather, but not for quite the same reasons as you are! It is about these that I am writing to you in the hope of clearing up a minor mystery.
There is no doubt that my 3x great-grandfather was Rear-Admiral Edward Chappell (1792-1861). On plausible authority I've read that Edward was illegitimate and that EDC was the father, one Elizabeth Chappell (1762-??) being the mother. She was baptised in Hothfield, Kent. The implications are that EDC's relationship with EC may have taken place while he was tutoring Henry Tufton whose family resided in Kent.
Far be it from me to appear to cast aspersions on your ancestors but I wondered whether you can shed any light on Edward Chappell's parentage. Thanks in advance for whatever you may provide.
By way of a footnote, I've had as much difficulty as you to establish reliable data on EDC's legitimate children let alone any illegitimate ones.  As he said of life at large, he was a busy man, perhaps too busy to bother with registering their birth or death!
Best wishes, Guy K

OK, so what would you try to provide? A copy of the Will would be good, as would a death certificate. And a newspaper report would be welcome.
IMO, he may have died in France. These Lemprieres were regular visitors to Dinard, where Millais used to join them.
Can you send me a private email with your comments and your terms and conditions. TTYL, Guy Knapton

@Stewart
Many thanks for your helpful reply. I've chased the Jersey Archives for the Will but drew a blank. May be a dumb question -- I apologize -- but where would I find the Will, please?
Are Jersey papers (being) digitised? If so, where? If not, where are the originals, please? (I'm bilingual, E&F)
May I infer that you would eventually be available to get what I'm looking for?

My g great-grandfather, Philip Raoul Lempriere, Seigneur de Rozel, died on or about 4 November 1859 but I don't know where, or in what circumstances.
I would be most grateful for any information about where he died, where he is buried, and the circumstances of his death.
