Leicestershire / Link between Langton & Knossington in Gartree Hundred?
« on: Tuesday 21 July 15 10:49 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

It didn't click until recently that some ancestors listed on the IGI are noted as being christened in East & West Langton, Knossington, Leics.
Having looked at the map, I've realised there's a good 10 mile distance between the two parishes.

Is this one of the many IGI mistakes, or is there a reason for this. I seem to remember there being a seperate 'Knossington Hundred' for an administrative reason, but haven't been able to turn up much information.

Or perhaps there is a deeper link between the two parishes. A particular household, perhaps? My relatives were rather non-descript labourers, and might have followed it around.

Thank you

Twyford is definitely in the nearby area of Burrough Hill etc. I would love to see the names and dates when you have the time,
Thank you

That's amazing!

Thank you all!

This should keep me quiet for a while.

I'm making a tentative link to John Knapp born Husband's Bosworth until I can get more proof.

Thank you!

Thank you! It seems the Haddon Knapps have been there a while.

Thank you. I think I'll have to make  a visit. I'm not being too specific and am just looking at what Knapps are in the area at the time.

It has been a very long time since I posted this message. Unfortunately my Rootschat mails ended up in the spam-box.

Thank you VERY much for your help. The information you have been able to find for me is of real interest, and thanks to sites like this those of use who live too far away can still work on the family tree.

Thank you again, and sorry for the late reply,

Sarah Knapp

Ooh, yes please!
Thanks for this info from Husbands Bosworth. It makes my tree so much more complete. I didn't know Thomas remarried again.
Are all these records from Husbands Bosworth, or have you included Knossington etc?

Hello,
does anyone have access to the older parish records for Knossington, Burrough Hill, Husbands Bosworth and Somerby? I am looking for a relatively broad search of Knappe/Knap/Knape/Nap to see if my family grew from Roger Knape (Knossington 1571) up to the Knaps living there in the mid 1700's. I know it's 150 years, but I have made a tentative match of the following families and would love to know if I am on the right track:

All christenings/marriages/deaths & misc information would be SO helpful!
I have the following names, but there might be others:

Richard Knap b Knossington/Langton 1742/d1742
Richard Knap b Knossington/Langton 1744 md Mary Harrison from Great Glen, Leics
Mary Knap b Knossington/Langton 1747
John Knap b Knossington/Langton 1749 d 1749
Sarah Knap b Knossington/Langton 1752
Elizabeth Knapp b Knossington/Langton 1754 d 1755

These being children of:
Jon Knapp b 1719 Husbands Bosworth & Hester Clark died 1767 Knossington/Langton

Who may have been brother or cousin to:
Mary Nap d 1710 Husbands Bosworth
Thomas Napp (no date/place)
Mary Nap 1712
Sarah Napp 1717 Husbands Bosworth
Elisabeth Nap 1727 Husbands Bosworth
Ann Nap 1731, possibly died unmarried in 1767 in HB
William Napp 1734 Husbands Bosworth

Jon's father,
Richard Nap 1669 Burrough Hill md Sara/h Adams

Possible brother/cousin to:
William Knappe b 1665 Burrough Hill
Matthew Knappe b 1666 d 1669 Burrough Hill
Soloman Knappe b 1671 Burrough Hill
Robert Knappe b 1673 d 1684 Burrough Hill

I believe Richard Nap to be the son of William Knappe b 1633 Somerby during his 2nd marriage to Abigail Goodman (Frisby on the Wreak 1632 d Burrough Hill 1695). First marriage to a Jane Whatton?

William possible brother/cousin to:
Elisabeth & Richard

Finally Williams father being also William Knappe md Margaret Burrough who died in Burrough Hill in 1675. This William had a brother or cousin named Francis. I do not know where they were christened.

My family all seem to be unskilled labourers, and haven't moved far until the 20th century, so I think I am very close to matching them. Living in Belgium it is hard to check. Is someone able to help?

Thank you
