The Common Room / Re: MBE Information Please
« on: Thursday 31 January 19 16:18 GMT (UK)  »
Many thanks everyone for all the helpful advice.  I have tried the Gazette but no luck there I am afraid!  I don't know where he was living at the time, possibly in London though so I will try any local papers next.  Interesting information about awards of which I had no idea so I have learnt quite a lot but not found exactly what I was hoping for!  Helen

The Common Room / MBE Information Please
« on: Wednesday 30 January 19 17:27 GMT (UK)  »
I hope this is the right place to post this request.  I have recently discovered that an ancestor was awarded the MBE possibly in the 1940's.  Is there any way I can find out exactly when and what the award was given for?  He was in the Royal Army Pay Corp during the Second World War so I am wondering if the award is related to that in some way.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.  Helen

Monmouthshire Lookup Requests / Bryngwyn Terrace, Tillery Road, Abertillery
« on: Thursday 30 June 16 20:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi
According to the 1901 census my grandfather Isaac Webb, lived at Bryngwyn Terrace, Tillery Road, Abertillery.  Does anyone know if this terrace still exists or where it was? I am hoping to visit the area soon and would like to go and see the place if it is still there.  Thank you for any help you can give.  Helen

Hi Victor
Only just looked at your messages.  Sorry I did not get back to you yesterday but I was out all day, mostly at work!  I had already checked with St Peters as I did not know there was another church in Leckhampton.  Thank you so much for all your hard work on this.
Best wishes
Helen

Hi Victor
Sorry I've been so long in replying.  Thanks for looking at St Pauls Shurdington.  She was married and in 1861 census she is listed as a widow.  I have found a possible death of her husband, Joseph, in 1860 but have not tried to locate his grave as yet.  Thank you so much for your help.  Sarah was born in Cirencester but she was married at the church in Leckhampton.
Best wishes
Helen

Thank you for your replies.  I look forward to hearing from you Victor when you have visited next week.  I am hoping to visit Cheltenham on Wednesday to go to the library and Bouncers Lane cemetery to find other family graves.  Thanks again.

Gloucestershire / Death in Leckhampton 1889

Hi

I am trying to find out where an ancestor is buried.  Her name was Sarah Best and she died in December 1889 in Norwood Street, Leckhampton.  I have tried the Bouncers Lane cemetery but they do not have any record of a burial  and the church in Leckhampton also have no record of her burial in the churchyard there.  Has anyone got any idea where I can look next?  Thank you for your help.

Berkshire / Re: Garlick and Dance families

Thank you Vicwinann and Dave for this latest information.

Dave I believe that your third paragraph refers to Jonathan who was married to Deborah Dance.  He must have gone on living in Kintbury working as a tailor as that is listed as his occupation on the census forms for 1841, 1851 and 1861.
